Shang (shang) and Yang (yang): all have one sound.

(About 395 BC - 338 BC), politician, reformer, thinker, representative of Legalism during the Warring States Period, Weiguo (now Liangzhuang Town, Neihuang County, Anyang City, Henan Province) Ji is a descendant of the king of Wei State. Ji's surname is Gongsun, so he is also called Wei Yang and Gongsun Yang. Later, because of his meritorious service in the Battle of Hexi, he was granted the title of Shang Jun in the fifteenth city, so he was called Shang Yang.

Shang Yang made Qin a rich and powerful country through reforms, which is known as "Shang Yang's Reform" in history. Politically, Shang Yang reformed Qin's household registration, military titles, land system, administrative divisions, taxation, weights and measures, and folk customs, and formulated strict laws; economically, Shang Yang advocated focusing on agriculture and suppressing business, rewarding farming and weaving, and militarily. The commander-in-chief led the Qin army to regain Hexi.

In 338 BC, Duke Xiao of Qin passed away and his son King Qin Huiwen succeeded to the throne. In the same year that Duke Xiao of Qin died, Shang Yang was defeated and died in Tongdi because he was accused by Prince Qian of treason. His body was brought back to Xianyang, where he was torn apart and displayed to the public.
