The founder of Tongrentang is Le Xianyang.

Le Xianyang, nicknamed Zunyu, was originally from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He moved to Beijing during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. My ancestors have been practicing medicine for three generations. He has been influenced by it since he was a child, reading extensive prescriptions and classics, and devoted himself to the research and production of prescriptions.

He regarded practicing medicine and selling medicine as the highest pursuit of maintaining health and benefiting the world and serving society. Le Xianyang founded Tong Ren Tang Pharmacy in the eighth year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1669).

In 1989, the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce recognized "Tongrentang" as a well-known trademark and received special national protection. The "Tongrentang" trademark was also the first trademark in China to apply for Madrid international registration, and the first in mainland China. A trademark applied for registration in Taiwan.
