There is also a legend: It is said that Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty had a beloved concubine who especially liked to eat lychees. Minister Yan Song came up with an idea and planted the whole tree. The lychee trees were dug out and shipped to Tianjin, and then the lychees were picked and sent to the palace to keep the lychees fresh and delicious. Over time, more than ten acres of lychee tree soil accumulated on the banks of the Haihe River in Xiaoliuzhuang. Later, the remaining soil was moved to Xinkou Town, Xiqing District, where the famous Shawo radish was grown.
