Xiaguan is located at the south entrance of the narrow passage between Cangshan and Erhai, and is the south gate of Nanzhao and Dali in ancient times. Since the 7th century, the ancient tea-horse road and the Southern Silk Road have crossed each other here, becoming the throat of the ancient tea-horse road and an important commercial town. At first, the tea trade on the ancient tea-horse road was mostly carried out in Pu 'er area. During the Republic of China, malaria epidemics and bandits often appeared in southern Yunnan, which made Tibetan caravans afraid to rush to Pu 'er. The tea trading center gradually moved westward. With the increasing trade between Yunnan, Tibet and Yunnan and Sichuan, it is located at Xiaguan at the crossroads of the ancient tea-horse road, replacing Pu 'er as the largest pressed tea processing center and tea trading distribution center in southwest China.
