Gan'an Town is located on the north bank of the Huaihe River, known as the "climate dividing line between north and south China". It has a mild climate, abundant water resources, the alluvial plain of the Huaihe River, and sandy soil, which has superior conditions for the development of efficient agriculture. The main agricultural products are vegetables, rice, wheat, peanuts and corn, among which vegetables are the town’s specialty industry. As a provincial-level pollution-free vegetable production base, Gan'an's vegetable industry has received attention and support from the Xinyang Municipal Government. The town's pollution-free vegetable planting area reaches 4,995 acres, with more than 2,000 large and small sheds built, and annual sales revenue of 15 million yuan. In 2005, a 200-acre pollution-free vegetable standardized production demonstration base was built. In 2000, the "Huaihe Cui" pollution-free vegetable trademark was registered with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. It is the only agricultural product trademark in Pingqiao District. The registration scope includes fresh vegetables, cucumbers, green garlic, peanuts, fresh potatoes, fresh edible fungi, natural Eight varieties of flowers and peppers have created a brand for Gan'an agriculture and increased the popularity of Gan'an vegetables. Gan'an Vegetable Wholesale Market was built in 1996, covering an area of ??40 acres. In 2002, a closed vegetable wholesale market with an area of ??3,000 square meters was built, with rainproof facilities installed and more than 80 trading stalls. It has become a daily trading volume of 200 tons, a local vegetable trading market with an annual transaction volume exceeding 30 million yuan.
