Kashgar pomegranate is rich in nutrition and contains many nutrients needed by human body. Fruit contains vitamin C and B vitamins, organic acids, sugar, protein, fat and minerals, such as calcium, phosphorus and potassium. The edible part of sweet pomegranate with big seeds contains carbohydrate 17%, fat and protein 0.6%, vitamin C/ 100g, calcium11-3mg/100g. Pomegranate fruit contains pomegranate essence, which has high medicinal value and can prevent hypertension and coronary heart disease. The roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits of pomegranate are all raw materials of Chinese herbal medicine. Pomegranate can not only be eaten raw and fresh, but also be processed into drinks.
Pomegranate area 1 1.2 million mu, resulting in an area of 86,000 mu and a yield of 32,000 tons. Mainly distributed in Yecheng County, Shufu County, shache county and Kashgar City. According to the size of the area, the distribution of counties and cities is as follows: Yecheng County is the largest, accounting for 40.1%of the total area; Followed by Kashgar City, Shufu County and shache county, accounting for 50.9% of the total area; Shule, Jiashi and Yuepuhu counties account for 8.2%; Bachu, Mohammad, Zepu and Yengisar are relatively small, accounting for 0.9% of the total area.
Shufu County and Yecheng County are the main pomegranate producing counties in Kashgar. In 2000, Kashgar pomegranate in Shufu County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Pomegranate in Kashgar, China" by the State Forestry Administration, and passed the organic food certification in 2006. In August 2009, Yecheng pomegranate was certified as an organic product by the state. The pomegranate area in Yecheng County is 44,900 mu, the fruit area is 1.97 million mu, and the output is 8,570 tons. The varieties of pomegranate are mainly sweet pomegranate with big seeds, which are mainly distributed in Bosirek Township, Luoke Township and Tieti Township in Yecheng County.
