NR or u: NR is an unrated film. And U is rated for films before 1968.
m.x or p: The movies in this level are basically not suitable for being shown in big theaters, and belong to the restricted category.
From G to NC-17, the most taboo is G, which means "ordinary audience", which refers to those movies that parents can safely let their children watch. The Disney cartoon Princess and Frog in 29 is G-rated.
Above the G level is PG, which means "Parents are advised to guide". This kind of film may contain some content that is not suitable for young children. It is up to parents to decide whether to take their children to watch and how to guide them. Disney's 3D film Alice in Wonderland in 21 was rated PG.
above pg is PG-13. At this level, parents are warned that the film may include content that is not suitable for children under the age of 13, such as not serious violence, nudity, sexiness, swearing and so on. As long as the film contains drug abuse, it will at least be rated as PG-13. This level does not mean that children under the age of 13 are not allowed to watch, but reminds parents to pay more attention. Avatar, a 3D blockbuster that swept the world in 29, was rated PG-13 in American cinemas. The 3D film clash of the titans released in 21 is also PG-13.
above PG-13, it is r grade, that is, "restricted grade". If the rating committee thinks that there is some adult content in the film, including constant violence, nudity, drug abuse or foul language, etc., it will rate the film as R. This is a serious reminder to parents: you must know more about this film before deciding whether to allow children to watch it. Without the company of parents or adult guardians, minors under the age of 17 are not allowed to enter the cinema to watch R-rated movies. The raters also strongly advise parents not to let young children watch such movies. Hurt locker, which won the best picture Oscar in 21, was rated R.
The most unsuitable level for children is NC-17, which means "No minors under 17 are allowed to watch". The rating of NC-17 does not mean "obscenity" or "pornography", but the adult content such as violence, sex, metamorphosis or drug abuse in the film may be beyond the tolerance of minors. The cinema will remind the audience that if you want to see this level of movies, you must leave your children at home and pay someone to look after them. When the Film Association first implemented this rating, the mark used was X grade. Because the X symbol is not registered as a trademark patent, pornographic film producers deduce XXX level to hype their films. In order to avoid being associated with XXX movies, the American Film Association changed its logo to NC-17 in 199. In 27, the Ang Lee film Lust, Caution was rated NC-17 when it was released in American cinemas.
Only Xian Yi's films can attract people to bring their families to the cinema. In order to ensure the attendance, many popular cinemas do not show NC-17 movies. In order to prevent the film level from being set high and affect the box office income, producers may cut the lens with scissors.
Although it is called voluntary rating, all major studios that are members of the Film Association will send their films to the rating committee for approval. On the other hand, some foreign films or films made independently may not have to bother with this rating because they don't expect to be released in large quantities in advance. These "unrated" films may only be shown in a limited number of art cinemas.
