This paper analyzes the present situation and causes of unsatisfactory translation quality of public signs in public places in Wuhan, and puts forward some solutions. The author thinks that when translating public signs, translators should be familiar with the functional meaning and linguistic features of Chinese and English public signs and follow the principle of pragmatic equivalence. Finally, the author puts forward that the translation of public signs should be professional, and suggests that relevant departments organize relevant experts to set up an "expert committee on the translation of public signs in Wuhan" to evaluate the translation of public signs in Wuhan, so as to standardize the translation of public signs in Wuhan and enhance the international image of Wuhan. ..

Bilingual signs in urban public places are widely used, but due to the restriction and influence of cultural factors such as thinking mode and national psychology, the translation of many public signs is extremely irregular. This paper mainly discusses the common types of mistranslation of public signs in Chinese-English translation. 6. Text type theory and pragmatic translation strategies.

Based on Newmark's text type theory, this paper analyzes the functions and text types of public signs, and discusses the pragmatic translation strategies of Chinese and English public signs from the perspectives of pragmatic language equivalence and social pragmatic equivalence according to different types of public signs. The translation of public signs is not only a translation and pragmatic issue, but also a social and cultural issue, which deserves further discussion.
