Chen Yijun, like the intellectuals of her generation, experienced the four clean-ups, the Cultural Revolution and long-term "re-education" from the university graduation to the reform and opening-up, neglected her major, but gained many unique social and life experiences, which was one of the driving forces for her to switch to the field of sociology.
She was admitted to China Academy of Social Sciences on 1978, and was sent to study in university of alberta. After returning to China, he served as the editor-in-chief of Sociology Abroad in the Institute of Sociology led by Professor Fei Xiaotong. During this period, he translated, edited and published more than 10 books, including Development Sociology, Soviet Sociology, Urbanization and Urban Sociology, Marriage and Family and Modern Society, Couple Conflict, Introduction to Psychotherapy, etc.
Professor Chen Yijun was sent to North America again in 1987, and specialized in marriage, family and social work at UCLA. After returning to China in 1988, he began to engage in marriage and family research and consultation.
In 1990s, Professor Chen Yijun visited and lectured in Harvard University, Rogers University, Copenhagen University and St Gallen University, and established extensive contacts with international academic circles.

In 2000, the Ford Foundation of the United States organized and funded a group of scholars to set up an information center for adolescent sexual health education, published the magazine Green Apple, and established a green apple website, a green apple health consultation hotline and a green apple parent school.
