Debit or credit, put together, have two meanings.

1) If you go to a store to shop and give someone a card, the cashier asks you: Debit or credit?

She is asking you: Is your card a cash card or a credit card? Because with a debit card, you deposit cash in your account and then use it as cash; with a credit card, you borrow the money from the card company first and then pay it back.

2) If debit or credit appears in the bank statement, it means that debit means withdrawing money from your account; credit means depositing money into the account.
