No need, monks are not businessmen, why should they make money?
Article 10 of the Ten Precepts of Theravada Buddhism:
10. Leave the Institute of Gold and Silver Learning
(Jàtar?pa-rajata-pa?iggaha ?à verama?)
Gold, jàtar?pa in Pali, means gold.
Silver, rajata in Pali, is currency, copper coins, wooden coins, plastic coins, etc. All common currency also belongs to gold and silver.
In short, money refers to any equivalent that can be used to exchange goods, including gold, silver, coins, checks, credit cards, etc.
Accept, Pali pa?iggaha?a. To accept (sàdiyana) it in any way is called acceptance.
There are three ways to accept:
1. Take it yourself (sayaü ga?hàti) - when someone offers money, he accepts it personally; or if he finds money that does not belong anywhere When anyone has money, he picks it up himself.
2. Instructing others to take it (a¤¤aü gàhàpeti) - When someone donates money or finds money, he instructs others to take the money for himself or keep it for him.
3. Agree to put money nearby (upanikkhittaü và sàdiyeyya) - allow others to put money near you or somewhere.
If the donor (dayaka) holds money (or red envelope, etc.) in his hand and says: "Sir, I want to support you." At this time, novices cannot accept it and should say "We cannot accept money. ” or “This is not allowed” and other words to refuse money, otherwise it becomes tacit consent; if the shamanela instructs the donor to give the money to someone or put it somewhere, it also constitutes accepting money.
If the donor conveys the message of offering money through words or actions, such as placing the money in front of the novice and saying: "This is for you." Or putting the money somewhere and saying : "The money at such-and-such a place is for you." And he did not refuse it through physical actions or words, but accepted it in his heart, which also belongs to accepting money.
Receiving gold and silver in any of these three ways is called "acceptance."
For a monk, there is no reason why it is permissible to accept money! (So ??na yena kenaci pariyàyena va?at?'ti.)
As the World-Honored One said in "The Vinaya? Dapin? Medicine Chapter":
"Bhikkhus, if People have faith and faith, and they put money in the hands of pure people: "Please give this [item] as approved by the Master." Monks, I allow you to accept what is approved by this [obtained]. Objects].
However, monks, I do not say that [you] can accept or seek gold and silver in any way.” (Mv.299)
