When people talk about money, they naturally think that money can buy things. Money is needed for clothing, money for food, money for housing, and money for traveling by car. Money provides convenience to our lives, and people cannot live without money. Generally speaking, having money can buy various items needed in life. Having more money will make people live a rich life; but having no money will make people fall into a dilemma in life. So by saying this, does it mean that money is the goal of life? No. Life cannot be separated from money, but the goal pursued in life cannot be money.

(1) The origin and function of money

Money is the main form of currency and a product of commodity production and exchange. In the late primitive society, commodity exchange became a regular and purposeful economic activity. The earliest form of exchange was barter for goods. However, with the expansion of commodity exchange, barter for goods was difficult to meet the needs of exchange. Gold and silver currency initially had no fixed shape and was exchanged mainly based on weight and fineness. Later, for the convenience of use, gold and silver bars were gradually replaced by mints. Later, paper money, which was purely a symbol of value, replaced mints and became the most important form today. Paper money itself has no value. It is a product of the commodity economy that has developed to a higher level, solving the problem of inconvenient circulation of gold and silver. The use of credit checks and credit cards in many countries today is actually the evolution of payment methods in the function of currency; from the history of the creation and development of currency, we can clearly see that money is just the "general equivalent" in commodity exchange. As currency, money has five functions: a measure of value, a means of circulation, a means of storage, a means of payment, and a world currency. We can experience the role of money everywhere in our lives. People need money for food, clothing, housing and transportation, the country's economic construction needs money, and the military's combat readiness training, weapons and equipment also need money. In establishing and developing a socialist market economy, money can promote economic development.

(2) Establish correct pursuit goals in life

Pursuit refers to the use of positive actions to achieve a certain goal. Any pursuit has a certain purpose or goal. It can be a material goal or a spiritual goal. It can be a long-term goal or a short-term goal. Everyone has his or her own pursuit, and pursuit is a unique activity for people. Different classes have different pursuits in life: the feudal landlord class pursues high-ranking officials, generous salaries, and a wife and children; the bourgeoisie pursues surplus value, money, and enjoyment; the proletariat pursues the liberation of all mankind and social progress and development. The correct pursuit of life is the embodiment of the correct outlook on life, the spiritual pillar for soldiers to dedicate themselves to the cause of national defense, the motivation to grow into qualified soldiers, and the energy that radiates brilliant light in the lives of soldiers. On the road of life, if you want to make a difference and make achievements, you must have the correct pursuit of life: the goals pursued by soldiers in life should be consistent with the goals of the proletariat and the responsibilities and missions of soldiers. The goal pursued by soldiers in life is to be a person who is beneficial to the people and to dedicate everything to the happiness of the people, the prosperity of the motherland, and social progress.

(3) It is wrong to regard all money as the goal of life

First, there are noble and low pursuits in life. Only by pursuing noble goals can his life be successful. It makes sense, the pursuit of money will make life lose its luster. The pursuit of truth, the pursuit of revolution, the pursuit of social progress and national prosperity, and the pursuit of a beautiful social system are all pursuits of noble goals. As a soldier, pursuing a strong national defense and making achievements in the military camp are also noble goals. Pursuing lofty goals can make people work hard, overcome difficulties and obstacles, and make life shine with brilliance.

If the goal of life is set on money, if you only want to make a lot of money and be a "rich man", if you work according to the salary, and care about every detail, it will lead to a slippery slope of thinking and short-sightedness, and you will "focus on money" and ignore everything. In the development of the country, regardless of collective interests and the interests of others, at least he becomes a person with low taste, and at worst he becomes a money worshiper who is only interested in profit, harming the public, and harming others. Using money to measure the value of life and thinking that whoever has more money has greater life value is a typical money worship. Third, human life is full of joys and sorrows. Only by pursuing the interests of the people can we have real happiness. Pursuing money will not lead to happiness. True happiness is the unity of material life and spiritual life, the unity of creation and enjoyment, the unity of personal happiness and the happiness of the people. Pursue the interests of the people and devote your limited life to unlimited service to the people. Because the satisfaction of spiritual life cannot be bought by money. What kind of happiness is there? In short, money is useful. We must fully affirm the role of money in economic activities and personal life, but we must not regard money as the goal of life. We want to pursue something more important and precious than money.
