How to migrate a running Oracle database to another system

1. Install the Oracle Solaris operating system

Oracle Solaris is pre-installed on the new SPARC server. For these systems, ensure that the appropriate Oracle Solaris version is installed and verify that the required patches are applied.

2. Install Oracle VM Server for SPARC software

Oracle VM Server for SPARC software is also pre-installed on new SPARC servers. For these systems, ensure that the appropriate version of Oracle VM Server for SPARC is installed and verify that all required patches are applied.

3. Configure the storage array

The Sun Storage 2540-M2 storage array is connected to the control domain, and the control domain exports two LUNs (LUN 0 and LUN 1) as virtual disks to the guest domain.

4. Configure the control domain

After installing the Oracle VM Server for SPARC software, reconfigure the current system to become a control domain.

5. Configure the guest domain

After configuring the control domain, create a guest domain to be used as an Oracle database node. On the physical server that is the source computer, create only one guest domain. Another physical server will eventually become the target computer.

6. Prepare the target server

Prepare the target server as follows.

Perform the steps described in the following sections to prepare the target computer:

Install the Oracle VM Server for SPARC software

Configure the control domain

< p>Ensure that all virtual I/O services used by the domain to be migrated are available on the target server.

Make sure the target server has access to LUN 0 and LUN 1 in the same storage.

Make sure that each virtual network device in the domain to be migrated has a corresponding virtual network switch on the target computer.
