# MalaysiaStudy# Introduction When studying in Malaysia, you have to spend money in many places. So how do you use UnionPay cards when studying in Malaysia? Let’s take a look together
1. Pre-departure verification Before traveling to Malaysia, please check whether the “UnionPay” logo is printed on the front of your UnionPay card. If not, please go to the specific card-issuing bank to apply for a new card. Whether it is a debit or credit card, please sign the signature strip on the back of the card. To ensure acceptance, please check with the card-issuing bank in advance whether it has opened Malaysian card service.
2. Scope of use Currently, UnionPay cards can be accepted in stores and automated teller machines (ATMs) with the "UnionPay" logo in Malaysia. Some stores may not have posted the "UnionPay" logo. You can also proactively ask the store cashier whether you can use UnionPay cards through the UnionPay network. UnionPay cards cannot be used for bank counter transfers and cash withdrawals in Malaysia, and cash withdrawals cannot be made through merchant POS terminals. Currently, Citibank Malaysia’s ATMs can accept UnionPay cards, and many banks will gradually open UnionPay card cash withdrawal services in the near future.
3. Conversion rate China UnionPay will convert the amount into RMB based on the market exchange rate on the day of the transaction and provide it to the card-issuing bank, which will immediately deduct the cardholder's account balance.
4. Withdrawal Limit ATM machines in Malaysia that accept UnionPay cards can withdraw money by inserting or swiping the card. The daily cumulative cash withdrawals for each card shall not exceed the equivalent of RMB 5,000 in Malaysian ringgit cash.
5. Cardholders do not need to pay any handling fees for card payments in standard stores (the consumption amount is the amount swiped by the card); handling fees will be charged for ATM withdrawals. Please consult the card-issuing bank for specific charges.
6. When using and troubleshooting merchants to swipe a card to purchase, please sign on the purchase form; the cashier checks whether the signature on the purchase form is consistent with the signature on the back of the card; regardless of debit card or credit card, you need to enter a password when swiping the card . If the card does not have a password, please press Confirm directly. If you lose your card, please call the card-issuing bank immediately to report the loss verbally, and then go through the relevant written procedures after returning to your country.
When the ATM malfunctions and the cardholder makes a mistake or forgets to take out the card, the ATM will automatically swallow the card. Within 3 days from the date of card swallowing (postponed by holidays), please go to the branch of the ATM that swallowed the card with valid documents (passport, resident ID card, etc.) to go through the card collection procedures. If the card is not collected as required within 3 days, the card will be destroyed. Cardholders are asked to apply for a replacement card after returning to the country. If the account is debited when withdrawing cash but the ATM does not dispense cash, or if the account amount is excessively deducted when making a purchase, the cardholder should apply to the card-issuing bank to handle the wrong account after returning to the mainland. If you make a complaint about business acceptance, cardholders can directly contact the card-issuing bank in the Mainland. When you need help, please call the UnionPay emergency assistance hotline 95516, which is available 24 hours a day.
