A short story about the Internet

A little thing happened in my youth hostel a few days ago:

A boy. Check in at my hostel. It was very quiet, reading a book in the living room and taking a nap on the deck chair in the yard. Occasionally, I look up at the sky with white clouds, and seem to be thinking about something.

Looking at his age, he must be in his early 20s, and I guess he is still a college student.

For me, it’s not surprising that such customers happen every day. I didn't see him saying anything to anyone. I was always busy with trivial things, so I never talked to him.

The next day, I got up late and saw the boy still reading in the living room. Of course, he was still very quiet and didn't speak.

I drank tea and surfed the Internet. There were also three or five other guests, drinking tea and reading online. Music played softly.

At nearly noon, his cell phone rang. Listen to him telling people on the phone how to get to my old Xie Car and Horse Shop. I thought, oh, it turned out that I had an appointment with a friend, no wonder I didn’t go out to hang out.

After a while, a girl walked into the hotel door, and she seemed to be a student.

The boy stood up and said to her, are you here?

The girl said to him: Is it you?

The boy answered shyly: Yes.

Female: Have you booked a bed for me?

Male: Well, I’ve ordered it.

Female: Let me see the room - I said this to the boy, but actually I also said it to the hotel waiter.

The waiter asked the boy: Is it hers?

Boy: Yes.

So, the waiter took her to see the room.

Soon he returned to the living room.

The girl said to the boy: I met a few friends in the car when I came here. I went to live with them, so I won’t live here anymore.

Just as he was about to turn around, he remembered again and continued: You didn’t pay for this bed, did you?

The boy probably didn’t know how to answer, so he remained silent.

Girl: Really, tell me, have you paid?

The boy had to answer: Not yet.

Girl: Well, okay, thank you. goodbye!

Gone...

I already know what happened.

Smiling and asking the boy: I met her online, but have never met in person, right?

The boy seemed a little embarrassed and kept silent.

I continued: We met online and we made an appointment to go together in Lijiang. You arrived the day before, and she just arrived today. You helped her book a bed in my hotel. Right?

The boy defended: She asked me to book it for her, and she was afraid that she would have no place to live.

Me: But when she arrived, she changed her mind...

I then asked the front desk clerk: Did he reserve a bed for the girl without paying?

The waiter replied: The money has not been paid, but I told him that if you make a reservation and the person does not come or comes but does not stay, he will have to pay for the bed. But, it's still early today...

I said: Yes, it's only noon now, there is no doubt that this bed can be purchased, and of course, the cost of the bed will not be deducted from him.

So, the waiter made a joke on the boy: Ha, if it is like this at night, you will have to pay for the bed.

The young man smiled coquettishly...

Seeing him embarrassed enough, I couldn't bear to joke with him anymore. Fortunately, in the living room, except for a few foreigners who were surfing the Internet, only me, him and the front desk clerk could understand Chinese. I said softly:

Every time you learn, you will gain wisdom. The Internet is just like reality, there is everyone. I have been running a hostel for many years, and there are not many reliable ones to date online. You have done nothing wrong, so there is no need to be disappointed. You will meet fellow travelers on the road and you can also have a good time.

On the third day, I got up and saw the boy no longer. He must have left for the next stop...
