Sabah, Malaysia Travel Guide

Sabah, Malaysia is the preferred destination for many travelers. Everyone looks forward to bathing in the sunshine of the sea and beach here. The sea water in Sabah is crystal clear, the beaches here are soft and delicate, and there is a dazzling array of delicious food. This is a good tourist destination.

Visa

Malaysia is not a visa-free country, but its unique Entri is very convenient, low-cost, and visa issuance is fast, but there are corresponding restrictions on the airport. You can apply at the Malaysia window.

Or find a Taobao agent, which is more convenient. It can be processed urgently or without a ticket. The price is dozens of dollars more expensive. Generally, it takes 1-3 days to check out. After checking out, you can print the confirmation form to clear Malaysia.

Climate

Both Kota Kinabalu and Semporna have tropical climates, with an average annual temperature of 23-31 degrees in summer. Although it is located in the tropics, it is relatively cool in the morning and evening, and there are not many mosquitoes. It is just that it is sunny during the day. The dry season is from April to September, and the rainy season is the rest of the time. Although the dry season is more suitable for traveling, the rain here is usually showers and will clear up soon, so it doesn't need too much. November to February is the rainy season. Even if you travel to Sabah during the non-monsoon season, you still need to bring rain gear or an umbrella. Due to the terrain, Kinabalu National Park often encounters thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Although Sabah is located in the hurricane zone, it is hardly affected by typhoons.

Best time to travel

In general, Sabah’s climate is suitable for year-round travel. It is worth noting that in May, different celebrations take place throughout the month. The climate in Sabah is like summer all year round, with no obvious rainy season or dry season, and it is a tropical climate. In the afternoon, the occasional tropical rain or shower makes the air here especially fresh and the tropical rainforest greener. So I suggest you bring more summer clothes. However, visitors to Kinabalu Park (especially climbers) must bring warm clothes and rain gear to keep out the cold and moisture.

Transportation

Uber - The city center of Kota Kinabalu is not big and you can walk to the whole city in half an hour. You can call an Uber that's a little further away. Download the international version of Uber, bind your credit card and you can deduct money directly. Of course you can also pay in cash.

Taxi - not recommended, because taxis in Kota Kinabalu do not have watches, the price is 2-3 times that of Uber, and there is basically no air conditioning, so the riding experience is not very good.

Rent a car - Since the driving habits are different from those in China, and there are many small roads and roundabouts in Kota Kinabalu, the road conditions are complicated, so it is not recommended to rent a car by yourself.

Motorcycle rental - You can rent a motorcycle from GGRENTAMOTOBIKE for RM20 for 5 hours.

Charter a car - If you are going to a remote place, chartering a car is a good idea. The one-day tour packages on Taobao are all in the form of chartered cars. Even if you have made a temporary decision on which attractions to visit, there are many regular travel agencies in the local area that you can consult.

Currency

Malaysia uses 1 ringgit and 1.7 yuan as the local currency.

Phone Cards

Common Malay phone cards include Hotlink, Digi, and Celcom. The price difference is not big, mainly based on the number of days and traffic. You can buy it on Taobao in advance, or you can buy it locally after getting off the plane. I don’t recommend you buy Hotlink because the signal is really not that good.

Tax Refund

After shopping in the mall, bring your loot, invoice, and passport to the designated tax refund point in the mall to collect the form. After arriving at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, find the customs on the far left and present the stolen goods, invoice, passport and form. After customs inspection, they will stamp the form and go to CIMB Bank to apply for tax refund.

Essentials

Sabah is an island resort. Please bring summer clothes, sunglasses, umbrellas, sandals (slippers), sun protection equipment and supplies, swimsuits, etc. Mount Kailash is located at a high altitude and the weather is cold. You can prepare a warm jacket and a pair of light casual shoes. When going snorkeling on outlying islands, you can bring your own snorkeling equipment.
