Tesla’s entry into China

In an exclusive interview with NetEase Technology, Wu Bixuan, former global vice president of Tesla and head of China, said that the most critical task in China at present is to speed up the construction of independent after-sales service centers in core cities across the country. By the autumn of 2014, after-sales service centers in Beijing and Shanghai will be completed. The center will also have sales functions. In the future, it is hoped that service centers can be found within a radius of 200 kilometers in most parts of the country.

Due to the high price of Tesla cars, many Tesla fans are deterred. On June 3, 2013, Tesla reached a strategic cooperation with China Merchants Bank Credit Card on the car installment business, providing car purchase customers with There are four monthly payment options of 12, 24, 36 and 48 installments, which greatly lowers the threshold for car purchase and is definitely good news for most Tesla fans.

After entering China for more than a year, Tesla has never stopped moving, hoping to downplay the color of being just a toy for the rich. After two coaching changes, it finally cleared various obstacles in China. Through a series of measures such as building 50 super charging stations and 700 charging piles across the country, promoting cooperation with China Unicom and other operators in automobile informatization, and opening up the free licensing policy for new energy vehicles, Tesla has gradually received support from policy links. , and also established a nationwide charging network. At the same time, this ambitious car company also plans to launch mid-range models priced under 300,000 yuan to further expand the market among ordinary consumers.

At the beginning of 2014, Tesla expected sales to reach 46,000 to 48,000 vehicles that year, and the Chinese market was expected to reach 14,000 to 17,000 vehicles, accounting for about 30% of global sales. However, by the end of the year, Tesla had exported about 4,000 vehicles in the Chinese market, and only had 1,600 vehicles registered, and its customer base was mainly concentrated in the high-end consumer sector. Obviously, this performance cannot satisfy Tesla. Therefore, it has recently launched a series of activities such as used car replacement and free license registration in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places in an attempt to stimulate the enthusiasm of ordinary consumer groups.

According to the rules introduced by Tesla, users can replace their current old cars when purchasing a car. After Tesla conducts standardized vehicle inspection and evaluation, the vehicle will be sold through online bidding, and the proceeds can be used as deductions. Current car purchase price. At the same time, Shanghai has also allocated 3,000 new energy licenses to purely imported electric vehicles. This is the first time that such a policy has been opened to electric vehicles imported from abroad. Currently, more than 500 Tesla vehicles have received free new energy licenses. "The replacement of the old car has entrusted a third-party platform to conduct the auction. If everything goes well, it can be sold out the next day." The replacement adopts the N1 model. The auction handover can be completed within one day after the evaluation results come out. However, there are still certain restrictions on the number of license plates. , "There are currently only more than 3,000 license plates. If the original old car has a Shanghai license plate, the owner can choose to sell it or install it in another car. Tesla can still enjoy the free license plate discount."

Tesla’s price in China ranges from RMB 650,000 to RMB 850,000, and its low-end version is about the same price as the BMW 7 Series, which means that it is mainly concentrated in young high-end consumer groups in China. However, with the support of a series of policies such as charging network and free registration, Tesla plans to launch mid-range models of about 300,000 yuan in the future to meet the needs of ordinary consumer groups.

While trying to increase the enthusiasm of ordinary consumers, Tesla is also further improving its infrastructure, the most important of which is charging piles.

Shanghai Unicom has built its first Tesla charging pile in the business hall of Renmin North Road, Songjiang, providing free charging and free Internet services to China Unicom and Tesla users. This is also the most important implementation link in the cooperation between China Unicom and Tesla. In September 2014, China Unicom signed an agreement with Tesla to build super charging stations in 20 cities across the country and establish charging piles in 400 China Unicom business halls in 120 cities. At present, Tesla charging piles have been launched in Songjiang, Minhang and other areas, and the service will be deployed in more business hall outlets in the future.

But on the other hand, offline charging is only an additional value-added service. The core content of the cooperation between the two parties is automotive informatization: "Currently every Tesla car sold in China is equipped with in-vehicle communication 3G/ 4G services, such as in-car navigation and multimedia entertainment services, can all be realized through 3G networks.”

For Tesla, the operator’s huge offline physical outlets have become the best carrier for the implementation of charging piles. . "By cooperating with the headquarters of large companies such as China Unicom and Intime, we eliminate the need to negotiate and cooperate with various local properties, and can more conveniently solve the charging problem." The above-mentioned Tesla Chinese person explained to reporters. At present, Tesla has reached cooperation with large enterprises such as China Unicom, Yanlord Land, Intime Group, Minsheng Bank, Shangri-La Hotel Group, etc., and plans to build charging piles, super charging stations and other facilities. These enterprises have rich offline physical outlets, and most of them are concentrated in core areas such as city centers and CBD business districts. At that time, super charging stations or small charging piles can be deployed according to the construction conditions provided by the property to open up the offline charging network faster.
