The functions of the economic investigation team are as follows:

1. The main task of the Public Security Economic Investigation Brigade is to be responsible for the investigation of domestic economic cases, belonging to a special investigation department. Investigation is an empirical science. Only when theoretical research comes from investigation practice can it finally play a guiding role in investigation practice;

2. As a new branch of investigation, economic investigation should be deeply rooted in investigation practice. The Economic Investigation Brigade only has the legal obligation and power to investigate and deal with economic crimes. If the police determine that it is a civil dispute according to the description of the parties, the police will not intervene. After accepting the report, the investigation department of the public security organ, after examination, meets the conditions for filing a case, and shall file a case with the approval of the person in charge of the public security organ at or above the county level. Guide local finance, taxation departments and other key units related to the national economy and people's livelihood to carry out safety precautions.

Legal basis: Article 3 of the Criminal Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).

Public security organs are responsible for the investigation, detention, execution of arrest and preliminary examination of criminal cases. The people's procuratorate shall be responsible for the prosecution, approval of arrest, investigation and prosecution of cases directly accepted by procuratorial organs. The people's court is responsible for the trial. Except as otherwise specified by law, no other organ, organization or individual has the right to exercise these powers. In criminal proceedings, the people's courts, people's procuratorates and public security organs must strictly abide by the relevant provisions of this Law and other laws.
