Many credit cards can also be used in ATMs to withdraw money according to the credit limit of credit cards, but many credit card issuers charge interest on prepaid cash before they shop. Interest on cash in advance is usually charged from the date of withdrawal, not from the date of monthly bill. Many card issuers charge a handling fee for cash withdrawal, even if the ATM and the card issuer belong to the same bank. Merchants do not offer cash back for credit card transactions, because they will pay their bank or merchant service provider a percentage commission for the extra cash amount, thus making it uneconomical. Discover is an obvious exception to the above situation. If the merchant allows, customers with Discover cards can get up to $50 in cash back. This amount is only added to the cardholder's transaction cost, and no extra fee will be charged, because the transaction is not regarded as cash advance.
Many credit card companies also pay their credit cards at the end of the billing cycle and use these payments for everything before paying cash in advance. For this reason, many consumers have a large amount of cash balance, which has no grace period and generates interest (usually) higher than the purchase interest rate. Even if they pay off the bill balance every month, these balances will remain for many years.
