Will the bank card be damaged if it comes into contact with water?

Bank cards (including credit cards) generally record account information using magnetic strips. The main precaution is to stay away from electrical appliances and strong magnetic fields.

It’s okay if the bank card is stained with water. As long as the magnetic strip is not damaged, it can be used. Because the design principles of various bank cards are similar, they can continue to be used as long as the magnetic strip is not degaussed. But it’s hard to tell if it’s soaked in water. You might as well try it at the teller machine.

Look for any ATM machine. As long as it can read the card and enter the password, it is sure to be available. If it is not available, there will be a prompt and the card will be returned.

If you can no longer use it, please call the 24-hour customer service hotline of the Credit Card Center to apply for a new card. If you hold a chip card and there is still an offline balance in the card, please take your card to a bank counter or bank withdrawal machine to perform balance transfer or withdrawal operations. At the same time, please destroy the damaged card after receiving the new card to avoid confusion and risks.

Supplementary information:

Bank card magnets generally do not affect their use if water enters them;

Bank card magnets can continue to be used after they are soaked in water and allowed to dry;

The magnetic stripe of the magnetic card will be demagnetized and cannot be used unless it is close to a strong magnetic field, such as in mobile phones, TVs, refrigerators, etc.

Note: The chip card is easily damaged if water enters it. Please handle it with caution after water enters the chip card.

Bank cards will be "degaussed" when encountering these four situations

1. Sometimes the bank card is accidentally bent or broken, causing the card's shape to change. If the card changes, the shape of the magnetic strip will also change, which will cause the card to be degaussed and unusable.

2. The bank card is in a high temperature environment. The material that makes up the bank card magnetic strip is PVC material. This material is very afraid of high temperatures. If the temperature is high, it will easily change its structure and deform. If the temperature is too high, it can even cause the material to burn. Therefore, bank cards are prone to degaussing in high-temperature environments.

3. If the bank card is kept in a relatively humid environment for a long time, its magnetic strip will be damaged and eventually it will become unusable.

4. Many of the things you wear have hidden buttons. Many of these hidden buttons are magnetic and can generate a magnetic field. The magnetic field will affect the reading of information from the magnetic stripe of bank cards. Therefore, if you keep your bank card near a magnetic buckle for a long time, it will easily cause the bank card to become demagnetized.
