Carbon traders refer to professionals who make carbon trading plans for enterprises and institutions in accordance with relevant regulations and conduct various operations such as purchasing, selling and mortgaging carbon emission rights for enterprises and institutions.

Professional background

According to the statistics of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (20 14), the atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have at least risen to unprecedented levels in the past 800,000 years. Since industrialization, the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased by 40%, firstly due to the emission of fossil fuels, and secondly due to the net emission caused by land use change.

Global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions has become a major environmental problem facing the world today. The extreme climate, melting glaciers, rising sea level and other problems brought about by rising temperatures pose a serious threat to the earth's ecosystem and even human society. Therefore, it is imperative to take measures to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide.

In response to climate change, China actively participates in international actions to deal with climate change:

1992 signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and then 1998 signed the Kyoto Protocol. Kyoto Protocol regards market mechanism as a new way to solve the problem of greenhouse gas emission reduction represented by carbon dioxide, thus forming carbon dioxide emission trading, referred to as "carbon emission trading".

China is also actively promoting the trading of carbon emission rights, which is also included in the Opinions of the State Council on Further Promoting the Healthy Development of Capital Market released in May 20 14. Since 20 13, several pilot carbon markets have been established in China, and the national carbon emission trading system was officially launched on 20 17 12 19.

By June of 20021year, the cumulative quota trading volume of carbon markets in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hubei, Guangdong and Shenzhen was 480 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, and the turnover was about11400 million yuan.

For all important participants in the carbon market, such as emission control enterprises, new energy enterprises, local governments, verification institutions, etc., mastering the workflow and norms of carbon emission rights registration, trading and management, and formulating sound carbon emission management strategies are important guarantees to ensure their own carbon emission data are accurate and more effective in participating in the national carbon market.
