Learn how Dutch flowers go global. Please tell me.
It's less than an hour's drive from Amsterdam to Hysmans.

I got up early in order to catch up with the excitement of the early shift. When we arrived at the Eastman flower auction market, it was still gray and not bright enough, but outside the flower market, it was already a busy scene, and all kinds of extended transport trucks were already ready.

It's too early, the market has just opened. The market opens at 7 o'clock, but the flower auction starts at 5 o'clock.

At this time, the market is still a little deserted, but standing in the aisle, I was shocked to see such a big flower market, so many busy employees, so many flower baskets and floats.

Local friends told us that flowers and green plants worth160,000 euros, totaling 48 million, travel from here to all parts of the world every day. In addition to local flowers in the Netherlands, there are also futures flowers. Flowers imported from Kenya, Israel and other countries are re-exported here and go to all corners of the world.

There are six flower auction markets in Holland, all of which are located in places with convenient transportation and close to farmers. In the words of local farmers, it is only a stone's throw from the market to the farm.

Eastman is the largest flower auction market in the Netherlands and the largest in the world, with 14 auction clocks and 5 auction rooms. Every year, tens of thousands of flower farmers sell their flowers and green plants through the Dutch flower auction market.

The day of flowers actually begins at 5 pm every day: at 5 pm, growers send flowers to the warehouse; Loading and transportation began at 8: 00 pm, and 10 arrived at the auction market; At night 10: 30, the flowers have entered the cold storage safely; The quality inspection starts at 4 am and the auction starts at 5 am; At 7 o'clock in the morning, the workers will pack the flowers they sell; In the morning 1 1, flowers were transported to ports and airports, most of the flowers sold were transported away, and a few were on the plane; At 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the flowers arrived at the last seller; At 5 o'clock, a new round of flower auction cycle began again.

In other words, when the auction market opens at 7 o'clock, the auction of many flowers has been completed. Merchants who come to participate in the auction usually come at 5 am or even earlier. Every merchant has its own IC card. Insert the card into the computer and start the day's work.

Although there are so many transactions going on every day, it is not as lively as the general auction market. No one bids, no one drops a hammer, only a huge auction clock shows the price and quantity of flowers at any time.

Look at the work of a flower auctioneer: come to the market at 5 am, turn on the computer with an IC card, and the contents displayed on the computer are the same as those displayed on the auction clock. If you like a flower, you will enter the auction process. Like all auctions, flower auctions have a reserve price; But unlike ordinary auctions, the auction of flowers is from the highest price to the lowest price.

After the auction is completed, the next packaging and transportation procedures will enter the auction market. You don't have to worry at all. Each basket has its own bar code. According to the above information, flowers will reach your desired destination step by step. The auctioneer's day's work is over.

The end of the auction means the beginning of the market workflow. A worker's day begins at 4 a.m. They came here early and arranged the tested flowers in various auction orders. Once the auction process started, the photographed flowers entered the process of packaging, distribution and transportation, and these workers began their busy and orderly work.

I asked a staff member if this kind of work is very hard, because it starts at 4 am all year round. As I expected, their answer was: Although it is very hard, we work in beauty and flowers. Besides, our working day ended early. Before noon, we are all free, and the rest of the time, we can do what we want. They also said it was the most beautiful job in the world! People who work in the market may be happy because they face bright flowers every day.

When I was taking pictures everywhere in the flower room, I found an interesting barcode machine. It turns out that in the auction procedure, there is a special procedure to label the flowers after the auction procedure with bar codes. These barcodes contain all the information of this blue flower. According to the bar code, the staff can accurately distribute them to the destination.

Well, flowers in Hysmans are like this. If it is lower than the reserve price, it would rather be discarded than sold. The only purpose of this is to protect the price of flowers, thus fundamentally protecting the interests of all parties.

Think about it, just end the old year with lotus flowers! Let a hundred flowers blossom in spring and make people happy forever!
