Analysis of investment environment in Sierra Leone, Africa

Wei Wei, School of Economics and Trade, Henan University of Technology

Abstract: Sierra Leone, a small country in West Africa, is rich in mineral resources, with superior geographical position, broad market space and great development potential. With the political stability in Sierra Leone, the Serbian government concentrated on rebuilding the economy and introduced a series of measures to encourage foreign enterprises to invest in Sierra Leone, especially welcoming China enterprises to invest and operate in Sierra Leone, hoping to learn from the production technology and management experience of China enterprises. For China enterprises, Sierra Leone has a broad field of investment cooperation, and it is also the first choice for enterprises to advance into Africa. This paper analyzes the investment environment of Sierra Leone, and probes into the necessity, feasibility and matters needing attention of China enterprises investing in Sierra Leone. Key words: Sierra Leone's investment environment, economic and trade cooperation, China Library's classification number: F740, literature identification number: A, article number:1005-5800 (2012)10 (a)-193-0320. The convening of this important meeting to strengthen China-Africa unity marks the continuous expansion of China-Africa cooperation fields, the continuous strengthening of cooperation and the continuous development of China-Africa new strategic partnership.

Both China and Africa have an ancient history, nurtured proud civilizations, fought hard against colonial oppression, were marginalized on the road of industrialization and modernization, and are actively exploring their own development paths. China and Africa have great complementarity and cooperation opportunities on the road of development. At present, the political situation in Africa is becoming more and more stable, and Africa's huge resource reserves and market potential provide China with broad development space; China has also given assistance to Africa within its capacity, with no political conditions attached, and has been striving for more rights and interests for the vast number of developing countries in Africa with its expanding influence. Africa hopes to learn from China's development model. Similarly, China will not forget that those African brothers who "brought us into the United Nations" are reliable strategic fulcrums for China. China-Africa economic and trade cooperation has an unshakable foundation.

This paper chooses Sierra Leone, a developing country located in Africa and unknown to most people, as the research object of investment. This is a country that has experienced hardships and turbulence, and has a good foundation for cooperation and a broad field of investment cooperation with China. This paper analyzes the investment environment in Sierra Leone, as well as the feasibility and precautions of investment. (2) China enterprises should formulate hedging strategies to deal with oil price changes. The above test results show that nearly half of the industry's stock returns have a significant negative reaction to the change of oil prices. With the development of China's economy, the dependence on oil consumption and imports will continue to rise due to the uncertainty of future oil prices and the increasingly rapid international transmission effect. Therefore, China enterprises should formulate effective hedging strategies, such as hedging transactions in foreign crude oil futures markets. In addition, China should gradually introduce more diversified crude oil derivative trading products to reduce the risks caused by information asymmetry in foreign market transactions.

1 Introduction to Sierra Leone

The Republic of Sierra Leone is located in Africa.

The west is adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, covering an area of 765,438+0,740 square kilometers. Freetown, the capital, is the economic and political center of the country.

Sierra Leone has a tropical monsoon climate with high temperature and rainy weather. The average annual temperature is about 26℃, and the annual precipitation is nearly 3000 ~ 4000 mm. It is a country with more rainfall in West Africa. The natural scenery is extremely beautiful and the transportation is very convenient, so it is called "the country of tourism".

Sierra Leone has a population of 6,005,250 (estimated in 2005), of which 80% are agricultural, 60% believe in Islam, 65,438+00% believe in Christianity, and 30% believe in tradition or other religions. The government pursues the policy of religious freedom, and religions can live in peace without frequent religious conflicts as in neighboring countries. The official language is English.

The word Sierra Leone comes from Portuguese, which means "Lion Mountain". The lion is the king of beasts and an easy target. The experience of Sierra Leone, a "country of lions", is indeed as bumpy as a lion, and it has been in war for a long time. From 1462, colonialists from Portugal, the Netherlands, France and Britain invaded Sierra Leone, and it was not until 196 1 that Sierra Leone achieved independence. However, after independence, Sierra Leone has not completely embarked on the road of free and peaceful development. A series of bloody domestic coups and wars constantly endanger this suffering country. The civil war in Sierra Leone began at 199 1 and went through a long ordeal of 1 1. It was not until 1 that the civil war officially ended in 2002 that the political situation in Sierra Leone gradually calmed down.
