After 1966, the Ministry of Geology and paleontologists carried out a systematic excavation in Longgujian, and unearthed a large number of dinosaur fossils, including five huge hadrosaurs and teeth of fierce Tyrannosaurus Rex. Later, national geologists and paleontologists transported these dinosaur fossils to Beijing and displayed them in the Beijing Museum of Natural History. The dinosaur fossils on display now are 8 meters high from head to toe and 18 meters long from mouth to tail. A femur is three meters long and weighs more than 700 kilograms. This is the largest dinosaur fossil of its kind ever discovered.
Because it was unearthed in Lu Biao Township, Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, experts named it "Giant Shandong Dragon" and "Giant Shandong Dragon", and it was also called "Duck-billed Dragon" because of its flat sound. Excavate fossils with important scientific value and engage in excavation work.
Paleontologists believe that there are a large number of dinosaur fossils buried in Longjujian and its vicinity, which is a large dinosaur colony base, which is extremely rare in China and even the world. These dinosaur fossils not only provide a reliable basis for the study of this kind of paleontology, but also provide valuable information for the study of geology, geography and climate in the eastern part of Shandong Peninsula in the late Cretaceous.
