Characteristics of PLA
Lactic acid, the raw material of polylactic acid fiber, is made from corn starch, so it is also called corn fiber. It can be made from sugar beet or grain by glucose fermentation to reduce the cost of preparing lactic acid polymer. High molecular weight polylactic acid can be obtained by chemical polymerization of lactic acid cyclic dimer or direct polymerization of lactic acid.
Products made of polylactic acid have good biocompatibility and bioabsorbability, as well as antibacterial and flame retardant properties. PLA has the best heat resistance among degradable thermoplastic polymers.
PLA fiber has similar physical properties to PET fiber, with high crystallinity and the same transparency. And because of its high crystallinity and orientation, it has high heat resistance and high strength, and can be spun by conventional processing technology without special equipment and operation technology.
