After Tang Xianzong died, his third son Henry inherited the throne and became Tang Muzong. Li Hengsheng had five sons, three of whom became emperors successively. The eldest son Li Zhan is Tang Jingzong, the second son Li Ang is Tang Wenzong, and the fifth son Li Yan is Tang Wuzong. Such a father and three sons belonged to the reigning emperor, which was unique not only in the Tang Dynasty but also in China's unified feudal dynasty. For example, Sima Yi and his two sons, Sima Shi and Sima Zhao, although they both have the title of emperor, they are all pursued by the descendants of later emperors. They did not become emperor before their death.
Henry Tang Muzong
Although Li Chun and his sons are both emperors, when it comes to achievements, his father and two brothers have nothing to say, except for the youngest Tang Wuzong Li Yan.
As a father, Henry Mouzon brought a female head to his sons. Under the influence of his mother Guo Guifei, he became emperor at the age of 26. After coming to power, he indulged in pleasure instead of putting national affairs first. Most of his records in history books are related to entertainment. He enjoyed eating, drinking, hunting, playing polo, building great buildings, listening to music and going to the theatre, but he did not like going to court. Eventually I went too far, had a stroke, lay in bed, and believed in the elixir of life, which resulted in me dying at 30, leaving a mess.
As Mu Zong’s eldest son, Li Zhan inherited the throne of Tang Jingzong after Mu Zong’s death. Li Zhan completely inherited his father's playing characteristics and carried them forward. He is a polo master and fox hunter. He also likes various games, such as wrestling, tug of war, dragon boat racing, etc. He often played all night long and was delighted by the thought of "going to the ballpark." It is a good thing to go to North Korea two or three times a month. All state affairs were left to the eunuch and his ministers.
It is well known that the Emperor likes to play, and he has done some strange things for it. Shortly after Li Zhan ascended the throne, a commoner named Xu Zhongxin broke into the bathroom door, causing a false alarm. In April, a craftsman and a dyer on Chang'an Street knew that the emperor often left the palace. In order to experience royal life, he came into contact with hundreds of dyers, entered the palace, ate and drank on the emperor's royal sofa, and was later captured and killed by the Shence Army. These things sound like fantasy, but they did happen, fully exposing Li Zhan's absurd life.
Li Zhan likes to play, but if he is unhappy, he will severely punish those who play with him. Many of the eunuchs around him were afraid. Finally one day, these eunuchs couldn't stand it anymore, so they took advantage of Li Zhan's alcoholism to kill him. Li Zhan was only 18 years old at the time. He had only been in power for two years, and a generation of playmates was over.
It stands to reason that when the emperor dies, as long as he has a son, the emperor's son will generally be the emperor. But in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, the eunuch group manipulated the deposed emperor. After his death, the eunuchs Wang Shoucheng and Liang Shouqian killed another eunuch and the king's son Li, and made his younger brother Li Ang the emperor. Historically, his name was Tang Wenzong, and later he was renamed Taihe.
Li Ang, Emperor Wenzong of the Tang Dynasty
Li Ang was an emperor who wanted to be an official, but unfortunately he was born at the wrong time. At that time, the eunuchs were running amok, there was a dispute between the emperor and the emperor in the palace, and the world was in chaos. Li Ang and Prime Minister Song secretly planned to get rid of the eunuchs, but they were accidentally discovered. Instead, the eunuchs designed to falsely accuse Song, which led to his execution by Li Ang. Later, Li Ang made many efforts to eradicate the eunuchs, but unfortunately they all failed. Instead, he was killed by the eunuch group in charge of the imperial army, and almost slaughtered the court ministers with an empty advantage. Li Ang was also put to death under house arrest and hated Jiuquan.
After Li Ang's death, the eunuchs Zhou Shiliang and Yu Hongzhi supported 27-year-old Wang Ying as emperor. His name is Tang Wuzong. Li Yan is tall and generous. He has been superstitious about Taoism since he was a child, and has a group of Taoist friends who accompany him to practice medicine; he likes to "walk freely" and travel everywhere. I once met a stunning geisha named Wang. She fell in love with her, and regardless of her status, she immediately got married and returned home to "hide her beauty in a golden house." His experience gave him richer social experience than the average prince who grew up in a palace. After Li Yan came to the throne, he reused Prime Minister Li Deyu, decisively sent troops to quell the rebellion of Liu E, our ambassador to Luze Town, sent troops to guard the border, thwarted the Uighur invasion, and strengthened centralization of power. There was a revival in the Tang Dynasty, and it was called Huichang Zhongxing in history. Li Yan is the most successful of their father and son.
However, Li Yan, who was superstitious about Taoism, launched a large-scale "extermination of Buddhism" campaign from 842 to 845 AD. More than 4,600 temples were demolished in total, tens of millions of hectares of temple land were confiscated, 260,000 monks and nuns were restored, and 150,000 maids attached to the temples left the temples, and they all became national taxpayers. The temple economy suffered a heavy blow, and the government's taxable population increased significantly. Historically, Wuzong's act of destroying Buddhism was called "Huichang Fannan", and together with the acts of destroying Buddha by Wu Tai of the Northern Wei Dynasty and Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, they were also called the "Three Wu Philosophers".
The king died for his love
Li Yan believed in Taoism. When he was a prince, he was very fond of alchemy. When he became emperor, he built a building to see Taiwan Province. After taking the medicine, his body suffered great damage. People around him advised him to take less medicine, but he didn't listen. Li Yan's fanatical pursuit of immortality made him unable to extricate himself. Finally, in 846 AD, his soul returned to the elixir. He met and married a geisha from Wang Xing, who was later named a gifted scholar and died in love.
This is a very deep feeling!
