What is the TEF exam?

1. Why do you want to test French knowledge?

In order to better evaluate the actual French proficiency of many college students who want to study in France, the French Embassy in China, with the assistance of the French Language Union Experimental School, began to implement the French Proficiency Test (TEF) in June 2000.

All college students who want to study in France, including graduates majoring in French, need to take the TEF exam.

TEF scores, like study plans, are part of visa application materials, together with registration certificates and consular documents. Companies that recruit French partners are also interested in the scores of such exams.

2. What is 2? TEF?

This is the test method formulated by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It measures whether candidates can use French to reflect their cultural knowledge and professional level through a transition ladder from elementary to advanced (from 0 to 900 points, divided into seven grades, corresponding to the six reference grades determined by the European Commission). This test can accurately evaluate the French level of participants. TEF scores are valid for one year.

4. Required items

The three required items include 150 questions. Each question has multiple answers to choose from. The examination questions of each project are from simple to complex, and the difficulty is gradually increasing. The examination time is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

(1) Reading comprehension section

Group a: 10 question

Objective: To identify a document (to identify the category, function and source of reading comprehension questions).

Article category: SMS, advertisement, product manual, postcard, etc.

Group b: 25 questions

Objective: To understand all kinds of documents accurately (to determine the author's intention, argument, suggestion, style and language style).

Article category: charts, news about daily topics, professional letters.

Group c: 10 question

Objective: To understand the organizational structure and logical relationship of the article.

Article category: articles with loopholes and chaotic logic.

Group d: 5 questions

Objective: To understand the general meaning of a sentence.

Article category: express the same meaning with multiple sentence patterns.

(2) Listening and speaking test part

Group A: 8 questions

Objective: To explain the contents of pictures in spoken language.

File category: dialogue, advertisement, story, anecdote.

B: 26 questions.

Objective: To understand short messages (to determine the general situation of communication).

File category: message, notification, short message, etc. On the answering machine.

Group c: 16 questions

Objective: to understand long letters (to determine the intention, viewpoint, feeling and attitude of communication).

Category of documents: excerpts from radio debates, summaries of dialogues, interviews with journalists, drama reviews, etc.

Group d: 10 question

Objective: To identify recognize voice.

Objective: To know vocabulary knowledge and understand a sentence.

6. Who will organize the TEF exam?

The application and passing of TEF examination are organized and managed by the French Union experimental schools according to the different consular districts to which the candidates belong.

2- You must have your own e-mail address so that the CELA website can contact you as soon as possible.

3- You must have a CELA registration number. If not, please register now.

4- Go to your personal page.

5- Fill in the registration form and select your exam session to complete your pre-registration. Once you have selected an examination period, you will not be able to change your choice.

6- Pay the registration fee immediately and return to your personal page to fill in the payment form.

Please pay attention! Don't forget to fill in the payment slip! You only have 2 days at most to pay and fill out the payment form on your personal page. Otherwise, the examination course you selected will be cancelled automatically.

7- Once your remittance is confirmed, the exam course you selected will also be confirmed. You will receive confirmation information about the test unit you selected on your personal page.

8- Please get the admission ticket through the personal page about 10 days before the exam. The admission ticket will indicate the specific date, time and place of the exam.

9- Please print the admission ticket and attach a recent 2-inch color photo.

What is the TEF exam?

TEF French proficiency test is officially recognized by the French Ministry of Education. It mainly tests the written and oral French understanding and expression ability of candidates.

French learners can sum up their abilities and prove their language proficiency through this exam. Therefore, anyone who wants to show his French level, whether for study or work reasons, can take this exam.

The French proficiency test includes three compulsory items: oral comprehension, written comprehension, structure and vocabulary.

The full score of each item is 300, and the total of three items is 900.

The Language and Academic Assessment Interview (CELA) is an interview with French university teachers and French business people in China and Asia, which lasts about 15 minutes.

During the interview, students who want to study in France will be evaluated from the following aspects:

After the interview, students will get an interview certificate issued by CELA. When submitting an application at the visa office, you need to show this interview certificate.

How to sign up for CELA interview?

To make an appointment for an evaluation interview, you must:

1. has a CELA registration number. If you haven't, please register now.

2. Enter your personal webpage for evaluation and registration.

3. Pay the registration fee of 65,438 yuan+0,500 yuan (excluding bank charges). You can go through the payment procedures at any bank in China according to the instructions at the time of registration. Please refer to your personal page for detailed steps.

Students who have won the Eiffel Scholarship or the French Government Scholarship do not have to pay the registration fee.

Please send us copies of all your materials through the post office.

5. Check carefully the evaluation interview time on your personal website and confirm it. If this time is not suitable for you for some special reasons, please contact us and we will suggest another time for you.

6. Print and show your interview notice on the day of the interview. You must also show us the originals of all the materials. If you can't make the appointment for some reason, you can make another appointment, but you must pay a fine of RMB in 300 yuan.

9- French learning certificate (at least 500 hours) (or English learning certificate if you register for English courses)

10- TEF test score certificate (or admission ticket) within one year.

For students enrolled in English courses: one of IELTS, TOEFL and CET scores within one year.

Do you need to attend an interview for language and academic evaluation?

All students with China nationality, or students with any nationality except France who live in China, must pass the interview of language and academic evaluation if they want to study in France.
