Garlic should be planted in the middle and late September. If the seeds are sown too early, the seedlings will grow too vigorously before overwintering, consume nutrients and reduce their overwintering ability, which may lead to vernalization again, resulting in secondary growth, and compound garlic will be formed in the next year, which will reduce the quality of garlic.
3. Too late sowing, small seedlings, tender tissues, weak roots, less accumulated nutrients, low cold resistance, and many people died during the wintering period. Therefore, the sowing date of garlic must be strictly controlled.
Garlic likes cool climate. The suitable temperature for aboveground stem and leaf growth is 12- 16℃, and the optimum seedling age for overwintering is 4-6 leaves. It takes about 40-45 days from sowing to growing 4-6 leaves, and the growth stops when the daily average temperature is lower than 7℃. The seedlings have strong cold tolerance and can tolerate the low temperature of -7 ~- 10℃. At 0-4℃, the vernalization period can be passed after 30-40 days.
