The members of the Executive Board are elected by the Economic and Social Council on the basis of the principle of regional distribution and the principle of representation of major donor countries and recipient countries for a term of three years. The Executive Board holds three regular sessions and one annual session every year. The Executive Board is responsible for examining and approving the assistance projects provided by UNFPA to developing countries and the administrative and financial budgets of UNFPA. The secretariat handles daily affairs under the leadership of the Executive Director and has offices in more than 60 countries. The term of office of the executive director is five years.
