The significance of Operation CD-ROM

The significance of Operation CD-ROM is to practice economy and oppose extravagance and waste.

The restaurants don’t order more, the canteens don’t serve more, and the kitchens don’t cook more.

The purpose of Operation CD-ROM is to develop the habit of cherishing food in life, practicing economy and combating waste, rather than just an action.

It’s not just about eating in a restaurant and taking it away, but ordering food on demand, getting food on demand in the canteen, and cooking on demand at home.

The "Operation CD" being launched is trying to remind and warn people that hunger is not far away from us, and respecting food is still one of the ancient virtues that needs to be practiced.

Since the launch of the "Operation CD-ROM" across the country in 2013, "waste on the tip of the tongue" has improved significantly. However, many consumers' consumption concepts and the mentality of showing off have not been fundamentally changed.

The Ministry of Commerce and the Central Civilization Office jointly issued a notice to promote the catering industry to practice diligence and frugality, and guide the whole society to vigorously advocate green life and oppose extravagance and waste.

The Development of Operation CD-ROM After World Food Day in October 2018, the CD-ROM punch-in application was officially released at Tsinghua University.

After the participants ate, they took photos and clocked in with their mobile phones, and AI was used to intelligently identify whether the discs were on discs, and rewards were given to encourage people to develop the habit of saving food through advocacy and rewards, allowing the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation to be diligent and frugal to gain new vitality in the new era.

In 2019, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League proposed: "Deepen the CD-ROM campaign and carry out online public welfare activities such as CD-ROM check-ins."

On World Earth Day in April 2020, the Central Youth League of China, China Environmental Protection Foundation and CD-ROM Check-in launched the "2020 Restart from CD-ROM" CD-ROM Relay Challenge.

In addition to relays from colleges and universities, the event has also received attention and support from the environmental protection and public welfare fields.

Covering thousands of colleges and universities, the number of people directly participating in the check-in reaches 500,000.

During the event, the cumulative number of CD check-ins exceeded 1 million, which is estimated to be equivalent to reducing food waste by 55 tons and reducing carbon emissions by 196 tons.
