How to do it in 2 hours?
Let five dollars appreciate 100 times.
This sounds a bit unreliable.
But in the classroom of Stanford University, Professor TinaSeelig did such a small test, which was not $65,438 +0, but it was similar:
She gave each of the class 14 groups an envelope containing $5 as a start-up fund. The students have four days to think about how to finish the task.
When they open the envelope, it means that the task has begun.
Each team needs to earn as much money as possible with the five dollars in two hours. Then, on Sunday night, they will file their results and send them to the professors, and then they will show them to the whole class for three minutes on Monday morning.
Although Stanford students are top-notch and smart, it is still a big problem for students who are not deeply involved in the world. In order to accomplish this task, students must make full use of the resources they have-that is, the five dollars.
if it were you
How will you complete this challenge?
When the professor first asked the students this question in class, the answer came from below, "Take this $5 and gamble in Las Vegas!" " "Take this $5 to buy lottery tickets!
Such an answer undoubtedly attracted the whole class to burst into laughter.
It is not impossible to do this, but they have to take great risks and it is almost impossible to complete it.
Other common answers are to buy materials with an initial capital of $5, and then help others wash their cars or open a juice stand.
These ideas are really good. It's no problem to make a little money. However, several groups have come up with a better way to break away from convention. They take this challenge seriously, consider different possibilities and create as much value as possible.
How did they do it?
Your most precious resource
Not that five dollars.
The team that made the most money hardly used the start-up money given by the professor-that is, $5.
They realize that limiting their eyes to this $5 will reduce many possibilities.
Five dollars is basically meaningless, so they jumped out of five dollars and considered the possibility of starting from scratch.
They try to look around: what needs people have not met. By finding these needs and trying to solve them, the top team earned more than 600 dollars in two hours, and the average return rate of 5 dollars reached 4000%!
Many teams don't even use their start-up capital, so their return on investment is unlimited!
So how did they create these miracles?
A way to create miracles:
A team found a common problem in university towns-some popular restaurants always line up in long queues on Saturday nights.
The team found business opportunities. They reserved seats in the restaurant in advance, and then sold each seat to customers who didn't want to wait at the highest price of $20 when Saturday approached.
That night, they observed some interesting phenomena:
1. Female students in the team sell more seats than male students, which may be the reason why women are more friendly. So they adjusted their plans. Male students are responsible for contacting the restaurant to reserve seats, while female students are responsible for finding customers to sell the right to use these seats.
2. They also found that when restaurants queue up to use electronic number plates, they are more likely to sell seats in this restaurant, because commodity exchange makes customers get tangible returns after spending money and makes customers feel that their money is worth it.
Method 2 of creating miracles:
Another group used a simpler method.
They set up a stall next to the student union to help passing students measure the tire pressure of bicycles. If the pressure is not enough, you can spend a dollar to inflate their booth.
Facts have proved that this idea is simple but feasible. Students can easily inflate at nearby gas stations for free, but most students are happy to inflate their booths and thank them for their services.
However, after standing at the booth for an hour, the group adjusted their way of making money. They no longer charge for the inflatable service, but ask their classmates for some donations after inflating.
In this way, the income suddenly rose! This team, like the team that sold reserved seats before, observed the customer's feedback during the implementation process and then optimized its own plan, achieving a substantial increase in income.
The performance of these teams is very good, and other students in the class are also impressed by their statements.
However, the team that makes the most money is the awesome one. They really took "thinkoutsidethebox" to the extreme.
The third way to create miracles:
The team thinks that their most precious resource is neither five dollars nor two hours of making money, but their three-minute presentation in class on Monday.
As a world-famous university, Stanford University is crowded not only with students who want to enter, but also with companies who want to recruit people in it. The team sold three minutes in class to a company and asked them to post a job advertisement.
It's too easy. I made $650 in three minutes.
They found that the most valuable resource at hand is neither selling their time nor their face, but selling their classmates-these talents are what society needs most.
This way of thinking is the "Thinkoutsidethebox" that everyone is pursuing now.
Find the most intuitive solution
And then rule it out
What is the best "Thinkoutsidethebox" practice embodied by Stanford students?
The following principles will be very practical for you.
"When encountering problems, first find out the most obvious solution and then rule it out. Ok, now you can start thinking about other solutions. "
This concept may sound a bit hollow. Let me give you an example.
Imagine that you are an ambitious entrepreneur now. For example, you want to open a restaurant, like the following.
What is this restaurant for? Provide food.
But no, now I tell you-this restaurant can't provide food, or rather, the food is very average.
In other words: you should open a restaurant that is not attractive to food.
Now that we have decided not to use food to attract guests, what should we use to attract guests?
You can focus on creating a unique restaurant atmosphere and open a theme restaurant, such as this-aviation theme restaurant (making the restaurant look like an airplane).
Or, you invite a great band or dance troupe to perform, such as this:
You can also decorate the dining environment into a children's paradise to attract parent-child dinners, such as this one:
You can even move the dining environment outdoors, for example:
There are many, many other schemes. .....
After excluding the bright spot of "food", what you need to think about is the idea of breaking away from convention, that is, "thinkoutsidethebox".
People who are good at "thinkoutsidethebox" can not only find solutions that others can't see, but also identify resources that others don't realize and package them into the most valuable ones.
Yes, when you do anything, you can try different solutions-first, eliminate the obvious, and think on this premise:
What else can you do if the simplest solution at hand doesn't work?
How can you make a living if your boss doesn't pay you today?
If you are not allowed to send flowers on Valentine's Day, what will you send to your beloved TA?
If popular tourist attractions don't issue visas to tourists, where else can they go to play?
……
"You live in a box, you work in a box, you control the box, and finally you are buried in the box. Jump out of the box of thinking. When you really find this way of thinking, you will find that there is actually no box outside. "
Thinking outside the box will increase many possibilities in your life.
You will get more than 100 dollars.
