The seven ancient wonders of the world refer to the pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the colossus of Zeus in Olympia, the colossus of the sun god in Rhode Island, the Hanging Gardens, the Temple of themis, the Mausoleum of Solas and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Since most of the ancient wonders were destroyed, seven wonders of the world in the Middle Ages were put forward: the Colosseum in Italy, the underground tomb of Alexander, the Great Wall of Wan Li in China, Stonehenge in Britain, the glass tower of Hunji in China, the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy and Sophia Cathedral in Turkey.

The world engineering miracle was selected by American Society of Civil Engineers: Panama Canal, Dutch North Sea Protection Project, American Empire State Building, American Golden Gate Bridge, Itaipu Hydropower Station in Brazil, Canadian National Television Tower and British Cross-Harbour Tunnel.

The "New Seven Wonders" of the world were selected by the NGO "New Seven Wonders Foundation": the Great Wall of Wan Li, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Inca site of Machu Picchu in Peru, the Colosseum in ancient Italy, the Mayan city-state site of Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Taj Mahal in India.
