Since the establishment of the hospital, the whole hospital has carried out extensive and in-depth research in philosophy, economics, agricultural economics, sociology, law, history and literature, and achieved many results. By the end of 1997, the whole hospital had undertaken 8 national key scientific research projects from the Sixth Five-Year Plan to the Ninth Five-Year Plan, 52 national fund projects 13, 52 youth fund projects 137 provincial plan projects, 265,437 hospital plan projects. He has published 78 academic works, completed and evaluated research reports 1242, and published 20 14 papers. Among all kinds of research achievements, 184 articles (ministries and commissions) won the highest social science award in Gansu Province, the second prize of scientific and technological progress in Gansu Province, the national and provincial excellent book awards and awards awarded by ministries, societies, associations, publishing houses and other units. At present, the whole hospital has formed many advantageous disciplines or research directions, such as theoretical research, northwest regional economic development research, northwest social and economic development history research, poor rural social development theory and practice research, northwest minority areas social stability and social development research, arid area agricultural eco-economy research, Dunhuang literature research, Dunhuang Huang art philosophy research and so on.

The Institute has conducted extensive academic exchanges with China Academy of Social Sciences, sister provincial, municipal and district academy of social sciences and some scientific research units in colleges and universities, and established a stable information exchange relationship. Cooperation and exchanges with the Provincial Planning Commission, the Provincial Science and Technology Commission, some large and medium-sized enterprises, some prefectures and counties are also increasingly close.
