The predecessor of Henan University
Henan University was formerly known as Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America.

19 12, the predecessor of Henan University, Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America, was born in the former site of Gong Yuan in the Qing Dynasty in the ancient city of Kaifeng. The first headmaster was Mr. Lin, a famous educator. In the early 1920s, at the request of educators, General Feng Yuxiang, the governor of Henan Province, decided to set aside special funds from the property of warlord Zhao Ya as the preparatory fund for the university to establish a university in Henan. On March 3rd, 1923, Zhongzhou University, established on the basis of pre-school, held the opening ceremony, with two departments of arts and sciences, with Feng Youlan and Cao Liqing as the directors of arts respectively.
