Dialogue with Cao: "Why did you initiate the establishment of Fuyao University of Science and Technology?"
Recently, the news that Cao intends to run a university has sparked heated discussions.

The website of Heren Charity Foundation founded by Cao, the chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co., Ltd., revealed a message on May 2: The Foundation plans to invest 654.38 billion yuan to build Fuyao University of Science and Technology. Why did you initiate the establishment of Fuyao University of Science and Technology? What is the mode of cultivating students in schools? How to solve the problem of funds needed for future school construction and development?

"Our way of running a school is to imitate the way of running a school in Europe, especially in Germany, to implement a misplaced school, and to cultivate industrial craftsman-style leaders in view of the shortcomings in the current training of manufacturing talents." Cao said that Fuyao University of Science and Technology aims to become the cradle of advanced manufacturing talents in China.

Building a university requires a lot of long-term capital investment, and the investment of 654.38+0 billion yuan is far from enough. How to solve the future funding problem? Cao expressed the hope that the school will become a university run by the whole society, absorb and concentrate the strength of the whole society and serve the whole society at the same time. "The school will accept donations from external funds in the future. I believe that the source of funds is not a problem."

It is worth noting that Fuyao University of Science and Technology explores a new school-running mode in state-owned universities, the core of which is the foundation school-running mode. Regarding the relationship between the foundation and the school, Cao said, "The foundation will put forward some suggestions and requirements for the development of the school, but it will not participate in the specific management and supervision of the school, and the school will still be managed by the government."

Recently, members of the board of directors and the board of supervisors of Heren Charity Foundation held a meeting to discuss the initial construction plan for initiating the establishment of Fuyao University of Science and Technology and reached a consensus. Figure/provided by respondents

On the original intention of running a school

"Help solve the problem of applied and skilled talents in China's manufacturing industry"

Beijing News: The announcement of He Ren Foundation mentioned that * * * will explore a new mode of running state-owned universities. Did you propose the establishment of Fuyao University of Science and Technology or the Fujian Provincial Government?

Cao: I took the initiative to raise the issue of running a school with the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Government. The provincial party Committee and government are very supportive of this matter, and provincial leaders have met many times to discuss the issue of running schools.

Beijing News: How did you come up with the idea of initiating the establishment of a university?

Cao: Actually, I have been planning it for several years. The inspiration for running a school comes from many aspects:

First, at present, there is a problem that senior management talents are cut off in China manufacturing industry. In recent years, many manufacturing enterprises are looking for senior engineers and factory management cadres everywhere. Some senior engineers in our company, such as quality engineers, sales engineers and design engineers, have been poached by other enterprises. The poaching of senior manufacturing talents leads to the soaring cost of enterprises, which is also unfavorable to the industrial development of our whole country. At the same time, another phenomenon is that many college graduates can't find jobs and have no place to find jobs. I just want to run a university, recruit excellent undergraduate graduates, train them to become the specialized craftsman-level management talents needed by China manufacturing enterprises, and help China manufacturing industry solve the problem of applied and technical skilled talents.

Second, at present, the mode of training talents in our domestic universities is standardized, and our domestic universities tend to emphasize the virtual economy and ignore the real economy, which is also a result of our universities learning from the United States after the reform and opening up. At present, many universities are keen to train talents for the virtual economy, and their disciplines focus on the Internet, finance, MBA and so on. However, some disciplines that train manufacturing talents can't keep up with the market demand and industrial development requirements, and some high-end talents that the manufacturing industry really needs have no place to train. At present, China's manufacturing industry and China's economy are in an important stage of transformation and upgrading. Failure to keep up with the training of manufacturing talents will affect the transformation and upgrading of our manufacturing structure and economic structure.

Third, the school is also inspired by the German education model. Some time ago, I went to Germany and visited technical university of munich and Aachen University of Technology. The way they train undergraduates and postgraduates is different from ours. I envy them for running schools like that. I think there is much to learn from the German educational model, and the talents trained in Germany are very useful. For example, professors employed by German universities all have practical experience in factories. A friend of mine applied for a university professor in Germany, but he was not hired because he had no factory experience. In German universities, experts and professors with factory experience will teach students how to do experiments and how to put theoretical knowledge into practice, so that students can get started directly after graduation. Here, college students enter the factory after graduation, and the company needs several years to train skilled workers, but this process is not needed in Germany.

Therefore, our way of running a school is to imitate the way of running a school in Europe, especially in Germany, to implement staggered running a school, and to cultivate industrial craftsmen-style leaders in view of the shortcomings in the current training of manufacturing talents.

On school-running objectives

"Become the cradle of senior talents in China manufacturing industry"

Beijing News: The concept of the school is misplaced. What is the concrete manifestation of "dislocation"?

Cao: We run a school of science and engineering, and the subjects we set up are the ones needed by the manufacturing industry to train talents at present. These subjects exist in the current university system, but the training methods we adopt are different from the current university training methods.

The orientation of the school is to cultivate applied and technical talents. I think we are backward with poor hands-on ability, and we want to cultivate applied research talents with strong hands-on ability to solve the practical problems encountered by the factory at present.

Beijing News: According to your idea, how to train manufacturing talents?

Cao: According to my idea, we should train future craftsmen. First of all, in terms of students, not everyone can come to this school. They will pass certain examinations and screening to recruit outstanding undergraduate graduates. We plan to apply for a master's degree authorization point, and students can get a master's degree certificate after graduation. As for the teaching staff, we will implement market-oriented treatment, hire a large number of professor-level engineers internationally to train our students, and we will also recruit school principals around the world.

Second, in teaching, we should integrate theory with practice. In addition to learning basic professional theoretical courses, we will also teach students to turn what they have learned into productive capacity-the school will build many laboratories for students to practice, and at the same time, we will cooperate with many factories to let students go to the front line of factory operation for practice.

Third, in terms of specialty setting, we may set up seven or eight disciplines, most of which are manufacturing majors. But one subject is economic management, and students of all subjects should be trained and studied in the course of economic management. For example, students may have 70% credits for specialized courses and 30% credits for economic management courses.

Fourth, we must cultivate international talents. We can teach in English. In the future, we also plan to cooperate with top universities around the world to train manufacturing talents, such as setting up exchange programs for our students to go out and have a look.

Fuyao University of Science and Technology aims to become the cradle of advanced manufacturing talents in China. We hope to train high-end, all-round and skilled talents through a series of high-level and all-round training, and they will grow into enterprise executives, factory owners and industry leaders in the future.

Beijing News: Has the idea of professional setting come out at present?

Cao: Not yet. At present, what we have announced is the preliminary discussion results, and we will demonstrate the school-running plan and specialty setting many times in the future.

On school funding

65.438 billion yuan is mainly used for campus construction, and will be donated by external funds in the future.

Beijing News: He Ren Foundation plans to invest a total of 654.38+0 billion yuan to build Fuyao University of Science and Technology. What is the main purpose of this 654.38 billion yuan?

Cao: This 654.38+0 billion yuan is mainly used for the infrastructure construction of the school, that is, the construction of the campus.

Beijing News: The construction and development of a university requires long-term and large-scale capital investment. How to solve the future funding problem?

Cao: I know it is expensive to run a university. Don't worry, we have a way to solve the financial problem. The future Fuyao University of Science and Technology is a public university, and there will be some financial allocations. And in the future, I will help the school find ways to raise money and get money. In fact, we can see that European universities do not rely entirely on financial allocations, but they are not short of money. For example, technical university of munich needs about 65.438+04 billion euros a year, of which 600 million euros is allocated by the government, 800 million euros is raised by the school itself, and the school is sponsored by service enterprises.

Beijing News: Will Fuyao University of Science and Technology accept donations from external funds in the future?

Cao: That's for sure. Fuyao University of Science and Technology itself is a university of the whole society. The school serves the high-end manufacturing industry in China, and our high-end industry itself is not short of money. I help them solve their problems, and they are willing to sponsor the school. Isn't it the same abroad? Now many enterprises come to us as soon as they hear that I want to run this university and consider cooperating with us. Because many manufacturing enterprises are short of high-end talents, China can't find a school to train high-end talents and cadres. Therefore, I believe that the source of funds to support the sustainable development of schools in the future is not a problem.

Beijing News: Will you consider co-establishing Fuyao University of Science and Technology with other enterprises?

Cao: It is possible that Fuyao University of Science and Technology itself is non-profit. If other enterprises are interested in participating, it will be decided by the school as the case may be. At present, no enterprise has enough strength to train talents needed by China manufacturing industry. We hope Fuyao University of Science and Technology will become a university run by the whole society, absorb and concentrate the strength of our whole society and serve the whole society at the same time.

Talking about the future

"will be the first chairman of the board of directors"

Beijing News: What is the reason for the school to explore a new mode of running state-owned universities?

Cao: The "newness" of Fuyao University of Science and Technology is mainly reflected in the establishment of a state-owned university funded by the government and public welfare funds. We help the school deepen the reform and implement the board of directors or the board of directors responsibility system under the leadership of the party Committee. The school should also adapt to the management mode of the board of directors or the board of directors in the future, because only by adapting to the management of the board of directors or the board system will there be enough funds to support the development of the school. The second "new" is reflected in the fact that the founding funds come from non-profit organizations and there is no desire to make profits.

Our foundation only sponsors schools and is responsible for building the campus. He Ren Foundation will put forward some suggestions and requirements for the development of the school, but the foundation will not participate in the specific management and supervision of the school, and the school will still be managed by the government.

Beijing News: Will you participate in some specific work of the school in the future?

Cao: I will be the first chairman.

Beijing News: What does it mean for you to start a university at the age of 75?

Cao: My personal achievement is due to the Party's reform and opening-up policy. I have made so much money. I want to give money back to this society and do something meaningful. At the same time, it also means a challenge from the last battle, but what should we do without a challenge? Success in running a school can add points to your life. If it fails, you can also imagine the possible consequences. Therefore, I am full of hope for running this university well.
