With the continuous development of SMIC, foreign capital and state-owned capital began to participate in SMIC. After years of development, the major shareholders of SMIC are all state-owned capital, and the composition of foreign capital is greatly reduced.

As of May 2009, SMIC has built a 300mm chip factory and three 200mm chip factories in Shanghai, two 300mm chip factories in Beijing, a 200mm chip factory in Tianjin, a 200mm chip factory in Shenzhen and a packaging and testing factory in Chengdu.

SMIC also provides customer service, setting up marketing offices in the United States, Europe and Japan, and setting up a representative office in Hong Kong. In addition, Wuhan Xinxin Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Co., Ltd. operates and manages a 300mm chip factory. Since its establishment, SMIC has developed into the largest wafer foundry enterprise with the highest technical level in Chinese mainland and the fourth in the world.
