She was a two-time Olympic champion at the 2002 Winter Olympics and a six-time world champion from 1997-2002.

She was a member of the Chinese national short track team.

Young is one of the most accomplished short track speed skaters of all time, winning 34 world titles, including six world championships.

She was the first person to win six world championships and six consecutive titles.

Her victory in the women's 500m short track at the 2002 Winter Olympics made her China's first-ever Winter Olympics gold medalist.

At the same Olympics, she won her second gold medal in the women's 1000m short track event, and also won two silver medals and a bronze medal.

Yang took a break after the 2003 World Championships, but returned during the 2004-2005 season to prepare for the 2006 Winter Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in the 1,000 meters.

Yang Yang was selected as one of 12,000 torchbearers for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics torch relay.
