American non-profit civil standardization group.

ANSI Z87.1 is the American Practice for Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection developed by the American National Standards Institute.

With the participation of three government agencies, the U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of the Army, and Department of the Navy, *** jointly initiated the establishment of the American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC).

In 1928, AESC was reorganized into the American Standards Association (ASA). In August 1966, it was reorganized into the United States Standards Institute (USASI). It was changed to its current name on October 6, 1969.
