Effect of heavy metal chromium on seed germination and growth of Chinese cabbage
Jiang Guangyue Cui Dejie
Abstract: The effects of different concentrations of Cr6+ on the germination and growth of Chinese cabbage seeds were studied through the seed germination test in Petri dishes. The results showed that Cr promoted germination at low concentration (4 ~ 5 mg L-1), and had obvious inhibition after reaching a certain concentration (8 mg L-1). Chromium has the greatest influence on the simplified vigor index and hypocotyl length of seed germination, which can be used as the toxicity index of chromium.

Chromium is one of the heavy metal pollution elements widely existing in the environment, and the toxicity of Cr6+ is 100 times that of Cr3+. It is a feasible method to detect the toxicity of terrestrial plants by using seed germination [1]. Comparatively speaking, the toxicity test of plant seed germination has two advantages compared with other toxicity test methods: first, the method is simple and the duration is short; Second, this method is very sensitive to the toxicity of poisons.
