Character speech

Bashu literature: an important record of Chinese civilization

Historical and cultural memory is realized through physical objects, relics, books and word of mouth.

Archaeology is born from the investigation and study of physical objects and relics; The task of philology is to sort out and study books and word of mouth. Because of the integrity, comprehensiveness and persistence of information bearing, philology has become one of the oldest and most systematic disciplines in historical research. To a great extent, the study of history and culture has become the research and collation of historical documents or cultural classics for a long time, and literary classics have also become a concentrated reflection and prominent symbol of historical and cultural prosperity.

Historical experience has proved that a culturally developed nation must have rich and colorful literature and a large number of classics. In other words, whether a culture is developed, whether it is passed down for a long time and whether it is rich in literature has become an important symbol. Chinese ancestors with a long history not only created rich material culture with hard-working hands, but also created brilliant spiritual civilization with wisdom. These achievements of spiritual civilization (including some achievements of material civilization) are recorded in hundreds of thousands of books and materials with the classification system of "Classics, History, Confucius and Collections". They are the main contents of the splendid treasure house of Chinese culture (and human civilization). They not only recorded the glory of the past history forever, but also ignited the wisdom of human beings for a long time, illuminating the endless road for people to study in Germany. Whether Chinese civilization can develop healthily and prosper for a long time, and even whether the Chinese nation can truly achieve great rejuvenation, depends not only on the reference and application of modern science and technology, but also on whether it can inherit and carry forward the excellent traditions of Chinese culture recorded in these literature classics.

A country is like this, and no place is no exception. One side is rich and its culture is prosperous; When culture is prosperous, its literature is also rich. As a result, "old genealogy" and "old country of literature" have become special terms to evaluate the historical and cultural heritage of a place.

Bashu area is one of the cradles of ancient human beings and an important cradle of ancient civilization in China. With fertile soil, humid climate and rich products, it is known as "land and sea" and "abundance" and has been a paradise for human beings since ancient times. At the same time, it is also a fertile ground for China's cultural development. Yu Xiu, Min 'e and Ling Bing, Jianghan, not only have the late Paleolithic "Wushan ape-man" and "Ziyang ape-man", but also have beautiful and moving historical legends such as Dayu's flood control, Shu Wang Can Cong, Guan Bai, Du Fu, Du Yu, Ming Kai and Wang Ba Lin Jun, as well as major discoveries such as the ancient cultural site of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and the cultural site of the ancient city of Chengdu Plain. There are not only the world's longest water conservancy project "Dujiangyan", the earliest human use of natural gas "fire well", the world's first paper money "Jiaozi" and other economic construction achievements; There are also bronze civilizations represented by "Bashu Ancient Characters", "Sanxingdui" and "Jinsha", which have a long history and charm, and "Shan Hai Jing", a rare book on earth that originated in Bashu and was written in Bashu. It is also the place where the government first set up schools to spread the Confucian Seven Classics and thus formed the enduring tradition of "Shu Studies", and it is also one of the earliest areas where block printing was invented and used. Bashu region is rich in natural products and has a long history of cultural resources, which has nurtured generations of cultural celebrities and "Shu Xue" elites, including writers such as,, Li Bai, Su Shi, Yi scholars such as Wei,, Zhao Chang, Li Dingzuo, Fang Shenquan and Lai Zhide, as well as Zhang and Tang. There are philologists and naturalists such as Wei Liaoweng, Yang Shen and Li Diaoyuan, hermits such as Zheng Zizhen, Zhao Kun and Chen Tuan, and scholars and reformers such as Yang Rui, Liu Guangdi, Song Dynasty. In addition, there are famous painters such as Li, Wen, Su Shi, and religious scholars such as Zhang Daoling, Zhang Lu, Zong Mi, Mazu and Du Guangting. They all came into being at the historic moment, taking the world as their own responsibility, and being brave in making innovations for the world, creating cultural wonders such as "writing is the best in the world", "learning in Shu is endless", "learning in Shu", "religion in Shu", "history in Shu" and "magic in Shu", which enriched the cultural treasure house of the motherland.

Sichuan is a big province of culture and literature, and the cultural creation of literati in past dynasties has left us with vast and colorful literary classics. According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 5,000 kinds of Bashu ancient books, and there are more than 3,000 kinds in existence. It is not only huge in quantity and rich in connotation, but also has different styles and forms. Generally speaking, it covers classics, history, sub-books and collections. The classic department of Sikuquanshu 18, and the history department 15, with complete categories. 14 sub-departments, 4 sub-departments, all salty. The evolution of geography, the rise and fall of politics, the development of economy, the prosperity of culture, the victory or defeat of military affairs, the change of society, the change of customs, the delicacy of thoughts, the elegance of rare figures and the national customs are all available.

To study the ancient history of Bashu, there are documents such as Shan Hai Jing, Biography of King Shu, and Huayang National Records. To study the history and culture of Sichuan after the unification of Qin Dynasty, there are Huayang National Records, Shu Bi, Guang Ji in Shu, Shu Dian, Shu Gu, and Broken Things in Shu, among which Guang Ji in Shu is rich in literature collection and extensive in content. To study the geography, customs and products of Bashu, there are Shu, Shu Shui Kao, Zong Zhi and Tong Zhi written in past dynasties, as well as the records of various counties and counties, and even various mountain records (such as Emei Mountain, Qingcheng Mountain and Jialing River). ) and famous people's travel notes (such as going to Shu) If we want to investigate the development history of Shu studies, there are not only comprehensive works such as Compilation of Shu Studies, Biography of Scholars in Shu, Imitation of Sichuan Literature and Art, but also academic monographs written by Shu scholars: Li Dingzuo's Zhouyi Collection, Su Shi's Dongpo Biography and Lai Zhide's Zhouyi Annotation Collection. In history, there are three kingdoms written by Chen Shouzhi, Huayang History written by Chang Qu, Records of Jian Yan Years written by Li Xinchuan, Miscellanies of the ruling and opposition parties, and Long Editions of Continued Mirror written by Li Dao. In literature, there are poems by Yang Xiong, poems by Chen Ziang Li Bai, and articles by Su San and his son. In terms of science and technology, there are Continuation, Continuation of Natural History, Syndrome Materia Medica and Nine Chapters of Shu of Qin. There are Yan Zun's Tao Te Ching, Su Zhe's Lao Zi Jie, and Tang Zhen's Collection of Books. There are Tai Xuan and Wei's Yuan Bao. Religions include Zhang Daoling's Lao Er Zhu, Li Rong's Lao Zi Zhu, Xiao Peng's Shen Zhu, Zong Mi's Hua Yan Zhu, Shi Shaozuo's Zan Wu Authentic, and Shi Xingtong's Continued Light Daotong. The ethnic groups include Schumann by Fan Chuo, Lai Bao's Plan to Pacify Jinchuan, A Gui's Plan to Pacify Erjinchuan, Zhao Yi's Brief Introduction to Pacify Erjinchuan, and Li Xinheng's Notes on Jinchuan.

Bashu literature is not only rich in content, but also pioneering and innovative. Yang Xiong's "Tai Xuan" and "Fa Yan" created a precedent for imitating sacred texts; Chang Qu's "Huayang National Records" is the first model of local chronicles; Zhao Chongzuo's Collection of Flowers and Su Shi's Dongpo Yuefu established the graceful and unrestrained style of Song Ci. Classic Efficacy of Zanyin Produces Treasure, Heart Sutra of Edible Doctors, Chen Shiliang Edible Materia Medica, Wang Zhuo Sugar Cream Spectrum and Tang Shenwei Syndrome Materia Medica are pioneering works in gynecology, dietotherapy, sugar refining and recipe science. As for Yang Xiong dialect, it has opened up a new field of dialect research, and six books, Li Dingzuo's Notes on Zhouyi, Wei Liaoweng's Notes on Zhouyi, Yi Song's Essence, Duda's Notes on Wan Yan and Yang Shen's Ancient Phonology, have started the track of ancient phonology in Ming Dynasty.

The colorful Bashu literature is not only the main carrier of Bashu culture, but also an important record of Chinese civilization. To study Bashu culture and even Chinese civilization, we should first pay attention to and sort out these Bashu documents and fully explore their cultural essence. Summing up the successful experience or failure lessons of governing Sichuan in past dynasties, and highlighting and commending the original spirit and humanistic heritage of Bashu literati who dared to be the first in the world and create for the world in past dynasties are also of reference significance for revitalizing Bashu culture and developing Bashu civilization. In the contemporary society that implements the strategy of "prospering Sichuan with culture and strengthening the country with culture", while fully learning and absorbing the world's advanced culture and vigorously developing modern science and technology, it seems that we can no longer "throw away our endless treasures and help the poor children at the door"! The compilation of Bashu Quanshu, a major project entrusted by the National Social Science Fund approved by the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, provides a good opportunity for us to comprehensively inspect the historical documents of Bashu, systematically sort out the fine documents of Bashu and scientifically protect the precious documents of Bashu. It is our glorious mission to comfort the ancient sages of Bashu, serve the contemporary construction of Bashu, and benefit the later generations of scholars of Bashu. This is also a very arduous historical task.
