Brief introduction of Washington convention

CITES Convention was signed in Washington, D.C. on March 3, 1973. Its purpose is to protect wildlife species from over-exploitation and utilization brought by international trade. China is the 63rd contracting party of CITES, and the Convention came into effect on April 8th, 198 1. Twenty-seven member units, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, form an inter-ministerial joint conference system to combat illegal wildlife trade.
