Beihang University was founded in 1952, formerly known as Beihang University. It was formed by the merger of the aviation departments of Tsinghua University, Beiyang University, Xiamen University, Sichuan University and Chongqing University. 1959 was designated as a national key university, and was renamed Beihang University on April 2, 1988.
