Speech by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on International Volunteer Day

201212 February 5

When we celebrate the influence of volunteers on our world

Let's remember many places where they are needed: war zones and classrooms.

In hospitals and at home-wherever there are struggling people seeking help.

Volunteers have influenced our world. While celebrating, we should not forget that we need volunteers in many places, such as war zones, classrooms, hospitals, families, etc. In fact, wherever suffering people seek assistance.

Let's also remember that volunteering can accommodate everyone.

From full-time activists to citizens who occasionally help. Everyone has set an example for the passion we need. Everyone has made valuable contributions to achieving our mon goal.

We should remember that everyone can take part in voluntary service. They can be activists who work full-time for a cause or citizens who occasionally lend a helping hand. Every volunteer embodies the spirit of sympathy we need. Every volunteer has made valuable contributions to achieving our common goal.

The eternal behavior of volunteering to serve others has a new level in today's digital age. Anyone with Internet or mobile phone can make a difference.

In today's digital age, the eternal work of volunteers serving others has taken on a new form. As long as there is an internet and a mobile phone, anyone can contribute.

I commend all those who volunteer for the benefit of the community every year. I am especially grateful to 7.

I believe they will also contribute to the progress of the post-2065 development agenda.

Values based on solidarity and mutual trust

Volunteers transcend all cultures.

Linguistic and geographical boundaries. Give their time and skills without expecting material rewards.

Volunteers themselves are inspired by a unique sense of mission.

Volunteering is based on the values of solidarity and mutual trust, transcending all cultural, linguistic and geographical boundaries. Volunteers dedicate their time and talents without expecting material returns. The special sense of mission sublimates the spirit of volunteers.

On this day

Let's make up our minds again to provide strength and encouragement to others through voluntary service.

On this International Volunteer Day, we promise once again that we must send encouragement and strength to people through voluntary service.
