The member countries of the International Fund for Agricultural Development are divided into three categories: developed countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; Developing countries of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and other developing countries. The source of funds mainly depends on the proportional pledges of the first and second categories of countries and the voluntary pledges of the third category of members.

As of February 1997, there are 16 1 members. The first group of countries are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The second group of countries are members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries: Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. The third category of countries are other developing countries.

As of 20 12, 10/0/24 October, IFAD * * has a total of 168 member countries, including 23 in Group A (OECD), 2 in Group B (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) 12, and 3 in Group C (OECD). Among the member countries in Group C, it is further subdivided into C 1 group (African countries) with 50 members, C2 group (European and Asia-Pacific countries) with 5 1 member, and C3 group (Latin American and Caribbean countries) with 32 members.

China joined the organization on June 1980.
