Southeast University School of Medicine is located on the banks of the beautiful Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing, in the city center where colleges and universities cluster.
The predecessor of the medical school was the Central University Medical School founded in 1935. It has since gone through important periods such as Nanjing University Medical School, the Fifth Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and Nanjing Railway Medical College.
In 2012, the hospital was approved as one of the first batch of pilot universities in the country for the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, and undertook two pilot projects for the reform of the training model for top innovative medical talents and the pilot project for the reform of the five-year clinical medical talent training model.
