if you don't sing for three years, a blockbuster means that people are famous all of a sudden.
A single song is shocking. Metaphor usually has no outstanding performance and makes amazing achievements at once.
This idiom comes from the following allusion:
During the Spring and Autumn Period, five countries successively dominated the Central Plains, which was known as the "five tyrants in the Spring and Autumn Period". Among the "five tyrants", Chu has the largest territory, the largest population, the richest products and the most prosperous culture. Chu Zhuangwang's domination of the Central Plains not only made Chu powerful and famous, but also played a great role in the unification of China and the formation of national spirit.
Chu Zhuangwang was born in an unlucky year and died 591 years before Gongwu. He was also known as King Jingzhuang and Xiong, a famous traveler (a Lu, a couple). He was the most successful monarch of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period and one of the five tyrants in the Central Plains. Ying capital is now a native of Ji 'nan City in Jiangling, the son of King Chu Mu, and he succeeded to the throne in 614 BC. After three years on the throne, he didn't give orders, went hunting all day, indulged in debauchery, and ordered: "Those who dare to remonstrate will die without forgiveness!" Wu Shen, a doctor, risked his life to remonstrate. Every king of Zhuang held Zheng Ji on his left and Yue Nv on his right, and sat between the bells and drums. Wu Shen, please guess the riddle, "A bird stops at Fu, and it doesn't fly or sing for three years. What bird is it?" Zhuang Wang replied: "If you don't fly for three years, you will fly into the sky; If you don't sing for three years, the song will be amazing! " But a few months later, King Zhuang remained the same and enjoyed himself even more. The doctor Su Cong advised again. King Zhuang drew his sword to kill Su Cong. Sue was never afraid, and insisted on admonition. Therefore, the king of Zhuang gave up his lewd pleasures, took charge of state affairs, and appointed Wu Shen and Su Cong as important positions. This is the origin of "blockbuster". Later, Sun Shuao was appointed as Lingyin, stressing gains and losses, stabilizing the political situation and developing production, thus laying the foundation for the hegemony of Chu.
In 611 BC, the third year of King Zhuang, there was a famine in China, and the Rong people harassed him. The affiliated Yong State and the Elk State colluded with Baipu to rebel against Chu. King Zhuang concentrated his efforts on destroying the most threatening country, and annexed the country of Elk, controlling the situation and enhancing the national strength. Since then, he has made great efforts to rectify the internal affairs, appoint talented people, enforce the rule of law, and strengthen the military preparation, so that Chu has a scene in which the country is rich and the army is strong.
in 66 BC, Chu Zhuangwang led an army to the north, swaggering in Zhou's direct jurisdiction, and sent an envoy to ask the importance of Jiuding, a symbol of kingship, which greatly replaced Zhou.
in 597 BC, the Chu army besieged Zheng and attacked it for three months, and defeated the capital of Zheng. Jin sent troops to rescue him, and fought against the Chu army in Zhai (northeast of Xingyang, Henan), and the result was a big defeat. After the war, Chu Zhuangwang drank horses from the Yellow River and looked at the north. After two years, Chu laid siege to Song State for an excuse, forcing it to yield. At this time, the small countries in the Central Plains became attached to Chu one after another, and Chu Zhuangwang became the leader of the Central Plains for a while. In the winter of 594 BC, the twentieth year of King Zhuang, fourteen countries, including Chu, Lu, Cai, Xu, Qin, Song, Chen, Wei, Zheng, Qi, Cao, Zhu, Xue and Zhi, met and formed an alliance in Shu (now Tai 'an West, Shandong Province), and formally elected Chu as the main alliance, so Chu Zhuangwang became the overlord of the Central Plains.
in 591 BC, Chu Zhuangwang died of illness and was buried in the suburb of Jinan city. His son succeeded to the throne, and he was called King Chu. The tombs of King Chu and Fan Fei are in the northwest of Jiangling City. The original Zhuangwang Temple in Ying City has been abandoned.
during the warring States period, there was a man named Chunyu Kun in the state of qi. He is eloquent and good at talking. He often used some interesting argots to persuade the monarch, so that the monarch was not only not angry, but also willing to accept it. At that time, Qi Weiwang of Qi was originally a very intelligent monarch. However, after he acceded to the throne, he was addicted to debauchery. Regardless of state affairs, he only knew how to drink and have fun every day, and left all the business to the minister to deal with, but he ignored it. Therefore, politics is not on the right track, officials are corrupt and dereliction of duty, and governors from all countries also take the opportunity to invade, which makes Qi on the verge of extinction. Although some patriotic people in Qi were worried, they were all afraid of the King of Qi, so no one rushed out to remonstrate. In fact, Qi Weiwang is a very clever man. He likes to say some argot to show his wisdom. Although he doesn't like to listen to other people's advice, he will still accept it if it is well advised. After Chunyu Kun knew this, he thought of a plan and prepared to find a chance to advise Qi Weiwang. One day, when Chunyu Kun met Qi Weiwang, he said to him, "Your Majesty, I have a riddle for you to guess: there is a big bird in a country that has lived in your majesty's court for three years, but he has neither flapped his wings nor been named, but he just curled up aimlessly. Guess, your Majesty, what bird is this?" Qi Weiwang was a wise man, and he knew that Chunyu Kun was satirizing himself. Like the big bird, he was the king of a country, but he did nothing but enjoy himself. But he was no longer a fatuous king, so he hesitated for a while and then resolutely decided to mend his ways, cheer up and do something vigorous. So he said to Chunyu Kun, "Well, this big bird, you don't know, will fly to the sky as soon as it flies, but it will die if it doesn't ring, and it will alarm everyone when it rings. You will wait and see!" From then on, Qi Weiwang stopped indulging in drinking and having fun, and began to rectify the national politics. First of all, he summoned officials from all over the country, and rewarded those who were loyal and responsible; Those who are corrupt and incompetent will be punished. As a result, the whole country soon cheered up and was full of vitality everywhere. On the other hand, he also set out to rectify the military, use strong force, and establish the prestige of the country. After hearing the news, the governors of all countries were shocked. Not only did they dare not invade again, but they even returned all the land they had occupied to Qi. What Qi Weiwang has done is really a "blockbuster"! Therefore, later people used the idiom "blockbuster" to describe that if a person has extraordinary talents, as long as he can make good use of them, once he exerts them, he often has amazing achievements.
