Beijing Technology and Business University is a key research university in Beijing. It was formed by the merger of Beijing Institute of Light Industry and Beijing Business School, and was formed by the merger of Machinery Industry Management Cadre College with the approval of the Ministry of Education in June 1999.

Beijing Business School has always been affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Internal Trade. Its predecessor was the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives Cadre School and the Central Commercial Cadre School.
