The golden wind is refreshing and the sweet-scented osmanthus is fragrant. Today is a good day!
Today, hundreds of law alumni from South China University of Technology returned to their alma mater. We are glad to see that you have become mature and steady without losing your youthful vitality after social tempering. Our alma mater welcomes you home!
I would like to take this opportunity to report on the development of the law major of South China University of Technology in the past 20 years.
The law major of South China University of Technology was founded in 1993. When it was first established, it was called "economic law major", and it was only a junior college. At the beginning of the establishment of the major, we only had three teachers, and soon the other two teachers left me and resigned to be a full-time lawyer, and I almost became a one-man army. Fortunately, 1995, the Ministry of Education approved the pilot undergraduate course of economic law in our school. With the help of the platform of undergraduate major, we soon introduced several teachers, such as Zeng, Guan Yonghong and Liu.
I still remember that at that time, our entire social science department was crowded into half the space on the fourth floor of Building No.8/KLOC-0 in the North Campus, and the law major didn't even have an office of its own. Due to the shortage of teachers, each of us has to undertake six or seven professional courses; I still remember the time when our teacher finished one or two classes in the North Campus 1 building, and then rode his bike at a sprint speed of 100 meters to attend three or four classes in the chemical engineering department known as Siberia. Standing on the podium, our clothes are almost soaked with sweat (some students told me that what impressed me most in those years was that shirts were always wet and stuck to our bodies).
To be honest, for the first few students, we have neither the conditions to prepare enough books and materials for you, nor the ability to teach you complete professional knowledge. We feel guilty! But at the same time, it has also cultivated your super practical ability (so a prominent feature of the external evaluation of law graduates of South China University of Technology is "strong practical ability").
From 65438 to 0996, although the Ministry of Education officially approved our university to offer undergraduate courses in law, there were many difficulties and difficulties in methodology in universities of science and engineering. We have no money to buy books and materials, introduce high-quality teachers and build off-campus practice bases. In the midst of hardships, 1999 ushered in the first excellent undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education. At the evaluation summary meeting, experts from the Ministry of Education pointed out that it is impossible for a school to become a first-class university if it is only strong in engineering and not strong in science and liberal arts. To build a first-class university, South China University of Technology must strengthen the construction of science and liberal arts.
Taking this as an opportunity, the school began to attach importance to the development of liberal arts. In 2002, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established. Professor Mo is the first dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which has a law department. Professor Zhang Honglin is the head of the department. At the end of 2003, the School of Law was established, and a preparatory group was established, with Professor Zhang Fuqiang as the head of the preparatory group. In July 2004, the Law School of South China University of Technology was formally established. After national selection, Professor Ge became the first dean of the Law School.
After the establishment of the Law School, under the leadership of Professor Ge, who thought he was the monitor, the development of the law major embarked on the fast track. From 2004 to 20 13, the law major of South China University of Technology has developed from a major with only about 30 undergraduates and only 1 master of economic law every year to a research-oriented institution with both master of law and doctoral degrees, with more graduate students than undergraduates, nearly 200 master students and nearly 20 doctoral students every year. We now have a national training base and two provincial key research bases. Our law discipline has been rated as a provincial key discipline and entered the first batch of excellent legal talents training units in China.
The national ranking of law major in South China University of Technology also jumped from the top 50 in China to the 29th in China. We also moved from the crowded and narrow North Campus 18 Building on the 4th floor to the university town with fresh air and picturesque scenery.
In the past twenty years, the Law School of South China University of Technology has sent 3 10 college graduates, 1899 undergraduate graduates, 174 dual-degree graduates, 350 LLMs and 378 LLMs to the society.
To sum up, the 20-year development of law major in South China University of Technology is actually divided into two stages. The first decade is a period of toddler and hard exploration, and the second decade is a period of rapid development and growth. At the age of twenty, we are adults, and we have grown from a thin child to a vibrant youth.
Don't forget the well digger when drafting. On behalf of the current leaders of the College, I would like to take this opportunity to pay high tribute to Professor Ge, who has made outstanding contributions to the construction and development of law major in South China University of Technology. I would like to express my deep respect to Mo, Professor, Secretary, Secretary Sun and Secretary Bing Xu who have shed their youth and sweat in the process of professional development and made great contributions to professional development!
Although the major has developed and expanded, we are clear-headed:
The ultimate success of a major lies not in how many degree points and research bases we have, but in how many outstanding alumni we have and how their performance is!
Alumni are the business cards of the school. In recent years, we are delighted to see that we can always see our alumni in some major rule of law activities. In the Guangdong Top Ten Prosecutors Competition the year before last, two of the top ten prosecutors in the province were our alumni. One year, among the top ten famous cases in Guangdong Province judged by the media, one case was that our alumni acted as presiding judge, and the other case was that our alumni acted as attorneys. Over the years, more than a dozen alumni have served as the presidents of basic courts, intermediate courts and procuratorates. We also have many alumni who have shown their talents in the financial field and the capital market; We have more alumni to become law firm directors, partners and successful lawyers!
Alumni are also the support of our school. Over the years, we have established more than a dozen off-campus practice and practice bases, established three platforms for cooperative research and collaborative innovation with practice departments, and hired nearly 40 off-campus master tutors. The completion of these projects mostly depends on the help of alumni or alumni units.
Our Shenzhen Alumni Association has also set up an alumni mutual fund to help and support students looking for jobs in Shenzhen. Although the amount of one-time funding is only a few hundred yuan or more, the new and isolated schoolmates feel the warmth of alumni's hands and classmates' affection!
Hand in hand and help each other; Heart to heart, in the same boat * * *! This is the corporation of South China University of Technology!
I used to be told by alumni that when it comes to graduation from South China University of Technology, there are always people around me with their eyes wide open. "Does South China University of Technology have a law major?" . In recent years, there have been fewer people with wide eyes and more people with thumbs up. When people in the industry talk about the law major of South China University of Technology, they always sigh that "the law of South China University of Technology is good and great."
From eyes wide open to thumbs up, it's just a simple change of body movements, but it's not easy! This is not only the result of the efforts of all our teachers, but also the result of all our alumni!
Alumni, the alma mater is proud of you!
We have a dream: we will establish a century-old law school. We should extract a kind of corporate spirit of South China University of Technology from alumni after alumni, let this spirit be passed down from generation to generation, and finally form the unique spiritual temperament of South China University of Technology as a legal person!
I think, "being practical, persistent, dreaming and responsible" may be the spirit of our legal person of South China University of Technology!
Thank you!
