It’s quite high. The highest official honor should be the National Scholarship, and the highest private honor should be the Tang Lixin Scholarship (tenure-term and other characteristics).
To be specific, the Tang Prize is said to be a prize, but in fact it is a membership system, not a one-time deal. Once you win the prize, you become a member of the club, and then there are various benefits.
Let’s talk about material welfare first.
First of all, there is a lot of money. There is no doubt about it. Life-long system, 10,000 yuan per year. I am currently studying for a Ph.D., and the Tang Prize will basically give me 70,000 to 80,000 yuan for the scholarship alone. .
Although it is installment, this part should be regarded as the most basic benefit. Basically, you don’t need to do anything. You can get it at the edge of the club. As long as you don’t stretch your hips too much, you can get it after a review. , the review is also very simple, you only need to be in the top 30% of the rankings each year.
The second level is the annual study tour. Every year, we organize overseas study tours (actually travel, but sometimes we also go to local universities to listen to lectures and the like), usually for ten days. It looks like food, accommodation and transportation are included, so in principle you don’t have to spend a penny. Self-paid items are basically what you want to spend money on, such as duty-free shopping and so on.
I went to the Mediterranean the year before last, the Southeast Asian cruise the year before that, the United States last year, and this year it was supposed to be Europe, but I definitely can’t go because of the epidemic.
This level requires assessment. The internal scoring system is mainly based on personal development and organizational contribution. The requirements are still relatively high, but if you can go every year, it means that you can have quite a lot of achievements every year. As for the free travel fund of 10,000 to 20,000 yuan, it is still relatively cost-effective.
At this level, there are basically not many opportunities for marginal OB players. Generally speaking, the results are pretty good in the club, and they are more active in the club or have made some organizational contributions (similar to universities) societies), it’s still relatively easy.
The next level is the study abroad scholarship. The amount of this part is relatively large. It is divided into three levels. It is said that it covers living expenses, tuition fees and everything. However, the actual situation is not very clear, but it is definitely much higher. For basic scholarships, the disadvantage is that the disbursement process is a little more troublesome and takes longer.
This part also needs to be evaluated, and it is relatively difficult. It is divided into school ranking, professional ranking, and organizational activity. The school ranking and professional ranking must be in the top 100 in the world to get points. Otherwise, it will be 0 points. Anyway It's really hard in general.
In terms of material welfare alone, the first two are very attractive during the student years, but they are probably limited to the student years. At least I think it is not enough for the Tang Prize students to join the workforce later. As for taking this benefit too seriously.
The latter benefit is actually out of reach for most people. It is difficult and relatively specialized.
Another benefit of the Tang Prize, perhaps even a bigger benefit in my eyes, is the platform.
Because the Tang Prize is really attractive to students, it can be said that the annual selection basically absorbs almost 80% of the top students of the school.
So if you put a little thought into it, you can basically catch up with this group of network resources very efficiently, and you will find that these people are very easy to contact, or that their general emotional intelligence is indeed higher than that of passers-by. If you put more thought into it, those from previous years and from other schools are really a very good treasure trove.
Therefore, I highly recommend Tang Prize winners to work hard to get study tour spots, because during the study tour you can connect with students from different schools, and these students are also considered high-achieving stocks in the Tang Prize.
In addition, the Tang Prize can be regarded as a brand name. If you meet another Tang Prize classmate at work, even if you don’t know each other, let alone his character, at least in terms of ability, you will think that he should be the same. There are two brushes.
So the platform can be said to have been lifted to a very high position by these very good students, and the platform in turn endorsed the students.
Finally, as far as I know, there should be five to six thousand Tang Prize student groups, but most of them are still continuing their studies, and a few are just emerging in the workplace. But what about ten years from now, what about twenty years from now?
Also, I heard that you can apply for funding if you start a business or something? However, I don’t know much about the specific situation and form, so I won’t comment.
So I strongly suggest that if your school offers the Tang Award, win it and make full use of the platform.
