Confucius Foundation of China The Confucius Foundation of China is a national and even international academic foundation supported by state appropriations as start-up funds.

It aims to organize or support domestic and overseas Confucian research by raising funds, serving to promote China's excellent traditional culture, build socialist spiritual civilization with Chinese characteristics, enhance the unity of Chinese at home and abroad, and promote cultural exchanges among countries.

The Confucius Foundation in China was established in Qufu, Shandong Province in September 1984 under the guidance of Comrade Gu Mu, former Vice Premier of the State Council, and approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and later moved to Beijing.

In August 1996, it was transferred from Beijing to Jinan with the approval of the central leadership. The secretariat was under the leadership of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Gu Mu has served as the honorary president for a long time, and Liu Aijun is the vice chairman and secretary-general.
